Outreach and Missions Youth on Mission in South Carolina In the month of June, our youth ministry went on a mission trip to serve in Myrtle Beach, SC. We took a group of 14 people and we got the opportunity to fix a roof for woman named Mary who has been dealing with stomach cancer. Thankfully, she is going to make it through and be OK after her treatments are completed. It was really cool to see our group of kids interact with her and love on her throughout the week. Our kids served with a smile on their faces and a passion for Christ in their hearts, we also grew closer as a group and spent some meaningful time worshiping together. It was an awesome week! - Alex Bracey, Youth Minister Franklin Backpacks Did you know that Calvary s involvement in the Franklin Backpack Program has continued throughout the summer? Even when school isn t in session, there are local families who still face food insecurity. So, we have provided two boxes of nutritious food one at the end of June and one at the end of July for the families of children who participate in the Backpack program. Thankfully, we did not need to seek any additional donations of food or cash to fill these boxes, because the members of Calvary were so generous in their support of this ministry during the previous school year. What s more, we were blessed to have members of the Ladies 3 Sunday School class and other volunteers who were willing to assemble the food boxes and coordinate their distribution. In September, we will kick-off our backpack ministry for the 2017-18 school year with our Fall Food Drive. At that time, we hope that you ll be eager to contribute more of those kid-friendly, individually-wrapped food items so that we can continue to make a difference in the lives of children right here in our neighborhood. In the meantime, thank you for all your faithful support! 2 Calvary Baptist Church 314 South Franklin Rd, Mount Airy, NC 27030 336-786-4778 calvarymountairy.org

Outreach and Missions Blessed and Blessing in Belize Early in the morning on July 9th, a 12-member mission team from Calvary Baptist left Mount Airy and headed for Belize. In the week that followed, they endured tropical heat, ferocious insects, and some long, hot rides in buses, boats, and planes. But they also got to build new relationships, to rekindle existing ones, and to serve the Lord in ways laid a strong foundation for future ministry. This was Calvary s second trip to Belize in what is planned to be a five-year partnership with the El Faro Encendido church in the village of Copper Bank. On this trip, our team invested most of their energy assisting the church with Vacation Bible School. However, they also met and prayed with people in the community. They conducted fellowship meetings with the men and women of the El Faro Encendido congregation. And they sponsored an outreach movie night that allowed approximately 200 people from the village of Copper Bank to hear a message about the power of faith in Christ. The Belize team will be sharing about their experiences in morning worship on Sunday, August 6th. But in advance of that date, they want everyone at Calvary to know how grateful they are for the prayer and support that have made their ministry possible. We hope you ll plan to join us on the 6th to learn more about how Calvary is seeking to fulfill the Great Commission. And we encourage you to consider how you can be a part of our ongoing partnership with the people of Copper Bank. It s Coming! Mid-Week Ministry Is On The Way! Summer is not quite over, but we re already gearing up for the return of Calvary s Mid-Week Ministry. Wednesday night activities will kick-off at 6 PM on September 6th with the third installment of Calvary s Got Talent. Do you sing, play an instrument, make funny faces, or have some other talent that you like to share with others? We want to see your gifts! So talk to Jan Varney to sign-up. Following the talent show, our regular Mid-Week Ministry schedule will begin on September 13th with a snack supper at 5:45 and growth options for all ages at 6:15. Children will enjoy a music time, followed by Mission Friends, GA s and RA s. Youth will have a Bible study just for them. And adults will have two growth options in our first session: Healthy Families in an Unhealthy World: Join us for a forum that will help keep our families safe and thriving. Speakers in mental/emotional health, technology, and healthy lifestyles will address topics like "How to keep your children safe from Cyber-bullying", "How to identify signs of depression or anxiety", "How to notice signs of drug use" and "How to make healthy lifestyle choices". This series will provide an informal setting for stimulating discussion and answering questions about growing a healthy family. Moses In the Footsteps of the Reluctant Prophet: In this video-based study, Pastor John Hamilton uses historical information, archaeological data, and biblical text to guide us in the footsteps of Moses, who grew in his relationship with God and successfully fulfilled the role he was given. A Note for the Choir Our first Christmas rehearsal will be Saturday, September 9 at 10:00 a.m. We'll rehearse parts until noon, then have lunch out together, and come back for one run through of all the music. Thank you for being part of this special event, and please invite a friend to join you this season! Fall Backpack Drive In September, Calvary will begin the Fall Backpack Drive for the kids of Franklin Elementary School. Please consider the items you may purchase now to support this worthy cause next month. For more information, contact Pastor Alex Martin. Invitation to Singers Well it's August, so that must mean I'm thinking about Christmas music! For anyone who might be interested in singing in the choir, we will begin preparations for our Christmas cantata in September. As always, we'll take the first part of rehearsal to go over Christmas music, and then you're free to go. We rehearse each Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m. Please join us to make this Christmas season alive with song! -Teresa Martin, Music Minister 4 Calvary Baptist Church 314 South Franklin Rd, Mount Airy, NC 27030 336-786-4778 calvarymountairy.org
