APOSTOLIC MANDATE MISSIONS 2011 I. When Jesus launched The Church, He had first raised up & trained a group Of men with a calling to be Apostles: A. Luke 6:13 And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles: 1. These twelve men are known as The Apostles of The Lamb / Rev 21:14 a. there will never again be Apostles of The Lamb b. But: there are Five Fold Ministry Gift Apostles today, along with the Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor / Teacher as taught in Eph 4:11 B. We are living in a day where we are seeing a great restoration of the office Of the Apostle: 1. and the one of the primary reasons for this restoration is to see the fulfillment of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all the nations of the world C. Def of the word Apostle: 1. sent one a. Rom 10:14-15 4 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? 2. Churches with an Apostolic Calling: a. by that I mean: local churches that not only have a Pastor, and other visiting ministries, such as Prophet & evangelist b. But an Apostolic church has the ministry of the apostle functioning within it s midst c. and sends out the Apostle to fulfill ministry beyond the four walls of the local church (1) be it planting another local church within the same nation (2) or be it sent out to world missions 1

3. An example of this New Testament pattern is seen in the church of Antioch: a. Acts 13:1-5 1 Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said,"now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." 3 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. Preaching in Cyprus 4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. 5 And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God (1) Antioch was Paul s home base for his Apostolic Ministry, from which (a) he would not only be involved in the local church ministry (b) he would go to and fro from the mission field (1) Acts 15:35-36 35 Paul and Barnabas also remained in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also. Division over John Mark 36 Then after some days Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us now go back and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they are doing." 4. Also the word Apostle describes a special envoy sent out with full authority for the purpose of expanding the dominion of an empire a. then to be responsible to teach & train new subjects the laws and culture of the kingdom 5. That definition still describes the ministry of the Apostle today as they go forth as Jesus sent ones to all the nations of the world a. not sitting up a political kingdom b. But establishing the Kingdom of God in the hearts of mankind c. and Establishing the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in every nation 2

D. Apostles (along with the Prophet) are the foundation layers of the church: 1. and the foundation which they lay is: Jesus Christ a. Eph 2:20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, (1) APOSTLES & PROPHETS LAY THE FOUNDATION OF Jesus Christ THRU THE PREACHING & TEACHING OF THE WORD OF GOD (a) 1 Cor 3:10 as a wise master builder I (Apostle Paul) have laid the foundation II. Matt 28:18-20 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. NKJV A. The above passage of scripture is known as the GREAT COMMISSION: 1. Def Commission: a task authorized by one with authority 2. After Jesus died on the cross, He took possession of the keys of hell & death According to Rev 1:18 a. and then rose from the dead & ascended into heaven of God far above all principalities & powers & every name as stated in Eph 1:20-21 3. Jesus whom has All Authority has in turn given us a Great Commission: a. Go to all the nations 3

B. The Great Commission is not just an Evangelistic Commission: 1. It is also an Apostolic Commission: a. We are not told to just make converts / win the lost Matt 28:19 b. But also: Converts must be made into disciples Matt 28:19 c. Churches must be planted / as seen in Apostle Paul s missionary journeys d. Elders must be ordained / as Apostle Paul instructed Timothy / Titus 1:5 e. Leaders must be trained / Acts 20:17-29 f. Saints must be perfected & established in the faith/ 1 Thes 3:10 & Rom 1:11 C. The Great Commission is accomplished thru Churches that have the proper Foundation laid within it 1. 1 Cor 3:10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. a. When Paul was Pastor of the Church he started in Corinth he reveals to us part of what Apostles do: (1) I have laid the foundation 2. As Paul moved out from the Pastoral responsibilities of the Corinthian Church, he then gives instruction to the next generations of leadership, & the congregation: a. Which included everyone from Pastor, elders, deacons, guest ministries, & the lay ministry functioning within the church: (1) But let each take heed how he builds on it (a) No one could build just any ole thing ministry wise it had to line up with & rest upon the foundation the Apostle Paul had laid (b) At the same time: A church with only a foundation is incomplete. Foundations are for building upon, this is where the role of the Pastor plays a vital part in helping to build the other aspects of the house of God: Foundation laid by the Apostle Paul/ others built upon it 4

E. Part of the Foundation the Apostle Paul laid in the Church at Corinth was: 1. It was a World Missions giving Church: a. 2 Cor 9:1-9 9 Now concerning the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you; 2 for I know your willingness, about which I boast of you to the Macedonians, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal has stirred up the majority. 3 Yet I have sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this respect, that, as I said, you may be ready; 4 lest if some Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we (not to mention you!) should be ashamed of this confident boasting. 5 Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren to go to you ahead of time, and prepare your generous gift beforehand, which you had previously promised, that it may be ready as a matter of generosity and not as a grudging obligation. The Cheerful Giver 6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 9 As it is written: "He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever." 2 Cor 9:9-10 9 As it is written: "He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever." 10 Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, III. A commitment to World Missions is part of the Foundation that has been Laid here at Abundant A. It is part of the call of God that rests: 1. not only upon my life a. but also upon this local church b. as well as the leadership & members of this local church 2. With this call of God upon this church & our lives, we are called to: SEND 5

3. This sending takes place three ways: a. Pray for the nations: (1) Ps 2:8 Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. b. Send: thru your financial missions offering pledge for 2011: (1) 2 Cor 9:5 and send beforehand your generous gift c. Also: send by you having opportunity to go on a missions trip where you can serve on the apostolic team that is put together for that particular trip: (1) serve as an intercessor (2) serve by helping minister to those who respond to altar calls (3) for those with a pulpit ministry:,,,.serve in ministering the word of God (a) part of the guidelines guide lines are found in the missions brochure (b) your pastor has a more detailed form you can ask them for My goal this year is to take more people on the mission field this year than ever before..especially first times B. Show you 20 minute video of some of the highlights of 2010 1. and part pf our missions goal for 2011 a. PLAY VIDEO B. I want you to take your 2011 MISSIONS PLEDGE CARD and hold it In your hand: 1. First: we are going to pray for the nations of Burkina Faso a. READ DETAILS of Brukina Faso b. Pray 2.
