How Sin is Overcome (Part 1): Romans 6

Transcription:

The reason Jesus shed His blood of the new covenant (promises of God, agreement, both parties involved - illus.: marriage, Christ and church) Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Heb 9:16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. Heb 9:17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. Heb 9:18 Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood. Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Heb 12:22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, Heb 12:23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, Heb 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. Act 20:27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

Act 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Heb 13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Heb 13:21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. The blood, poured out, for the forgiveness of sins - Jesus: crown of thorns, scourged, crucified, side pierced from which came blood and water - Jesus poured out His blood (cross) so we could be forgiven under the new covenant sins remembered no more Buried with him in baptism. Col 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Col 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. There are 39 known root diseases worldwide. JESUS paid for our healing by His stripes. 3: Jesus Crown of Thorns Won Back Our Prosperity 4: Jesus Pierced Hands Won Back Dominion Over the Things We Touch 5: Jesus Pierced Feet Won Back Dominion Over the Placed We Walk 6: Jesus Pierced and Broken Heart Won Back Our Joy 7: Jesus Bruises Won Our Deliverance from Inner Hurts and Iniquities Baptism is "the answer of a good conscience toward God" (1 Peter 3:21). Genuine repentance and a desire to follow the Gospel demands obedience to God's instruction. The pattern is simple: "they that gladly received his [Peter's] word were baptized" (Acts 2:41). Baptism symbolises the "burial" of our old life and a new beginning: "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin" romans 6:3-6). Colossians 2: 12 reads similarly. Baptism is a public display of a person's repentance and new found commitment to Christ, and is most often performed in expectation of

God's blessing through the infilling of the Holy Spirit, evidenced by speaking in-tongues. Luke 7:29 says "all the people that heard him [John the Baptist], an the publicans [tax collectors], justified God" in being publicly baptized. For those who receive the Holy Spirit before being baptized, the Apostle Peter asked, "Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord" (Acts 10:4748). ADULTS OR CHILDREN? In Bible times, no infants were baptized. In fact, the very idea of an infant baptism is inconsistent with the requirement for the candidate to have a conscious belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and make a commitment to Him. For those below an age of understanding, baptism can have no spiritual benefit as it demonstrates neither repentance nor a personal commitment. As "the answer of a-good conscience toward God", those being baptized must appreciate its significance. Accordingly, the scriptures explain that children are "sanctified" through the faith of their parents, who are charged with the responsibility of raising them in the "in the nurture and admonition of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4). The scriptural practice of infant sprinkling, or "christening", did not receive general acceptance until about the 12th century. Introduced partially as a matter of social convenience, it has since become an established tradition in most churches. Rebuking the religious leaders of His day for their departure from such simple commands of God, Jesus said "Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?" (Matthew 15:3). How true. even today! JESUS' COMMANDMENT The great commission given by Jesus to His followers was that, once endowed with the power of the Holy Spirit, they should "teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and

of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you" (Matthew 28: 19-20). Similarly," Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned" (Mark 16: 15-16). The activities of the early Christians are recorded: "when they believed... they were baptized, both men and women... [with] miracles and signs" (Acts 8:12-13). After asking what he must do to be saved, and being instructed to "believe", the Philipian Gaoler and his family were baptized "straightway" (Acts 16:30-33). Also, "many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized" (Acts 18:8), and "they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied" (Acts 19:5-6). YOUR MOVE Many today have rejected the message of the churches, yet have never experienced Christianity. Exciting and real, Bible Christianity brings healing, security, protection, provision, and-happiness. The first step to this new life is to obey Jesus' command to be baptized. The challenge is put to all: "And now, why do you delay? Rise up and be baptized" (Acts 22:16 -- Amplified Bible).
