We Remember, We Celebrate, We Believe! Every Sunday we gather as a family to remember Just how much Jesus loves us even to the point of dying for us. We come here to celebrate his rising from the dead on Easter morning and his presence with us in the Eucharist and in one another. And together we believe that we will see him in his glory when he comes to greet us just as he has come to greet our faithful departed. That my friends is the hope that enables us to continue living our lives. We remember, we celebrate and we believe that there is MORE. During the month of November we remember our loved ones whom we commended to God out Heavenly Father over the last year. Once again we entrust them to Jesus our Lord who himself felt the heavy sadness of death as he wept at the tomb of Lazarus his friend. Together we remember the many ways our beloved dead have touched our lives and made us smile. Together we celebrate their lives and the blessings we have experienced because of their time with us. Together we believe that in the end, Christ the Good Shepherd will lead each of us, as he leads our beloved deceased, into the radiant joy of Easter Morning where; Every tear will be wiped away and on that day, we shall see you our God, as you are and be happy with you and with our loved ones forever in heaven. Again, we have place Books of Remembrance in the front of each church, you are invited to enter the names of your loved ones in the books of our churches to be remembered and prayed for throughout the month. If you cannot make it to the church but would like to have the names of your loved ones entered in the book, fill out the form and mail it to the parish office and we will enter them for you. Fr. Steve Please enter the following names in the parish Book of Remembrance. PRINT CLEARLY 1. 6. 2. 7. 3. 8. 4. 9. 5. 10. Oktoberfest Dinner By Stephanie Logue FESTIVAL OF PRAISE Hearts of THANKFULNESS What could be better in October than German food and beer? St. Norbert s again was the host of the Oktoberfest dinner, another great opportunity for Holy Apostles parishioners to spend time together and perhaps get to meet someone new. However, if you drank too much beer, you might not remember meeting anybody (just joking, of course!) I, personally, cannot vouch for the beer since I don t imbibe, but diners enjoyed the beverage by the glass or in their personal beer stein. The delicious menu included pork (or hot dog), sauerkraut, cabbage, mashed potatoes, potato pancakes, applesauce, sour cream, rolls, and dessert. Thanks to all who made this event a success. Come and join us in this spiritually uplifting celebration of Jesus. A motivational Adoration Service of worship and music. Worship Music is provided by the Holy Apostles Parish Band under the leadership of our own Fr. Levi. This month s Presider and Homilist will be our pastor, Fr. Steve with Sue Clancy, a long time parishioner and lector here at Holy Apostles Parish, as the Witness Speaker. Hosted By HOLY APOSTLES PARISH Saturday, November 11, 2017 7:00 8:30 pm Saint Albert the Great Church Questions: call 412-884-7744 FESTIVAL OF PRAISE TEE SHIRTS & SWEATSHIRTS If you ordered Festival of Praise Shirts. They will be available the night of the Festival of Praise. You can stop at the Faith Formation Building before or after to pick them up. PARISH OFFICE The Parish Office will be closed Monday, November 6, Tuesday, November 7, Wednesday, November 8. For emergencies call the Parish Office.. The office will reopen on Thursday the regular time. ENJOY BOOKS This will be the last Sunday for Enjoy Books to be sold after Masses. You can still purchase them at the Parish Office Monday thru Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM. The cost of the book is $30. These make great gifts for the Holidays. SACRAMENT STUDY You are invited to a series of discussions on the 7 Sacraments. We will cover them in 5 sessions on Wednesdays after the 9 AM Mass at St. Albert s. If there is enough interest, each session will be repeated at 7:30 PM that evening. The dates are: November 8 and November 15. Marty Murawski will facilitate. I hope you will join us for all or some of the sessions. Please call 412-885-4272 so we will know how many people to expect.

THE DEACON S CORNER Deacons Corner We have now had about two months of Nar-Anon meetings, and they continue on Mondays at 6:30 pm in the St. Albert the Great Chapel. But there remains a misconception of what they are about. Many continue to mistakenly believe this is a NA meeting, addressing addicts and their recovery. It is not. While we support NA and what they provide for addicts, Nar -Anon is about those who currently have an addict in their life and are suffering from the chaos and debilitating effects of living with addiction. It is a program to deal with the damage done to the family and friends of the addict, through the experience of others, and by connecting with their God. This is a program. Nar- Anon is not a onetime event. Those living with and needing help and recovery in their life with an addict are encouraged to come and participate in the program offered, and come back as often as needed. Any question, give Deacon Mike a call at 412-884-7744 x 206. God Bless. ROSARY FOR RECOVERY St. Sylvester Parish will have a Rosary for Recovery on Wednesday, November 15th at 7PM in the church, 3754 Brownsville Rd., to pray the rosary together for those struggling with addictions, their friends and families, and doctors, first responders and service providers. All are invited. For more information call 412-882-8593 X 218. READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Rom 11:29-36; Ps 69:30-31, 33-34, 36; Lk 14:12-14 Tuesday: Rom 12:5-16b; Ps 131:1bcde-3; Lk 14:15-24 Wednesday: Rom 13:8-10; Ps 112:1b-2, 4-5, 9; Lk 14:25-33 Thursday: Ez 47:1-2, 8-9, 12; Ps 46:2-3, 5-6, 8-9; 1 Cor 3:9c-11, 16-17; Jn 2:13-22 Friday: Rom 15:14-21; Ps 98:1-4; Lk 16:1-8 Saturday: Rom 16:3-9, 16, 22-27; Ps 145:2-5, 10-11; Lk 16:9-15 Sunday: Wis 6:12-16; Ps 63:2-8; 1 Thes 4:13-18 [13-14]; Mt 25:1-13 I am sometimes surprised at what we Catholics do, but don t know why. In this case it seems that nearly half of the people I have asked, make the triple sign of the cross at the reading of the Gospel in Mass, but don t know why. After the deacon or priest says, A reading from the Holy Gospel according to., he and the faithful make the sign of the cross with the thumb on the forehead, lips, and breast over the heart. (The deacon or priest also makes the sign of the cross on the Lectionary or Book of the Gospels.) The first recorded instance of making the sign of the cross at the proclamation of the gospel is found in the ninth century: Regimius of Auxerre (d. c. 908) in his Expositio recorded how the people in the congregation would sign their foreheads, and the deacon would sign his forehead and breast. By the eleventh century, as attested to by Pope Innocent III, the deacon would make the sign of the cross on the Lectionary or Book of Gospels, and then both he and the congregation would sign the forehead, lips, and breast. The significance of the threefold signing is that we want to hear the Holy Gospel with an open mind, proclaim it with our lips, and cherish and safeguard it in our hearts. We are imploring the Lord for the grace to receive, acknowledge, and then profess the faith that has been received in the Holy Gospel through our Lord, Jesus Christ, the Word of God incarnate. We would also like to have photo boards to display in our churches to remember them at Mass. If you think you can dedicate some time to helping form the committee, please call the parish office and leave your name and number so we can schedule a meeting and open-house for others who may want to help. . The Cost of Discipleship Prayer to the Holy Family In the mystery of the Transfiguration Jesus reveals to his disciples that he is the Son of God and that he will come again in glory at the end of the age. Yet, this magnificent sight occurs only after Jesus tells his followers that they must take up their crosses in order to follow him. Jesus wants us to share in his glory, while at the same time encourages us to be prepared for the challenges that arise along the way. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more it and to stay informed.
