A Message from Our Pastor Dear People of St. Patrick Parish: As we light the second Advent candle, our thoughts should reflect on the words of John the Baptist, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Jesus is that kingdom at hand. Are we still holding on to our sins, are we refusing to let go of our sins? Advent, Reconciliation and conversion of heart can truly free us from this. Christian people are to set an example of mercy, forgiveness, trying to get along, work for peace and set a good example. Tuesday, we celebrate St. Nicholas, a Bishop in the 4th century, who took care of the poor. He would leave help for people at their doors without them knowing who it was who gave the help. Yes, it does remind us of Santa Claus. Perhaps, you will buy a toy for a child whose family needs a little help, bring that toy to church, place it in the toy barrel and think about the joy that child, whom you do not know, will have. Thursday, December 8 is a Holy Day of Obligation, to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Since she would be the mother of Jesus, she was conceived without original sin. Sin never touched her, but she felt the pain of sin in seeing what people did to her son, Jesus. All Catholics are to attend Mass on this Holy Day. Masses will be at 7:30am, 9:00am and 7:30pm. Loving God, as we await the joy of Christmas, please bring peace to all people and let all sin be destroyed forever. God Bless, Fr. Larry Young Pastor

PREPARE THE WAY Saint John the Baptist appears on the scene today as Advent enters its second week. The mysterious consumer of locusts and wild honey, John echoes the words of the prophet Isaiah as he calls for repentance in the face of the near ess of the kingdom of heaven. The rhy hms of the Christian life are oſten confounding. Each year we meet the Baptist and hear his calls for repentance. Each year we see him pointing to the one who is coming aſter him, the Lord Jesus. Yet each year the words and actions of John the Baptist echo anew in our hear s, because we have fallen into old sinf l t aps again and again. Advent gives us the oppor nit once again to t r away om our sinf l ways and embrace the gospel way of life. John the Baptist invites us to prepare the way for the Lord, in whom we place our hope.
