Thank you for worshipping with us. We hope that you found our service meaningful and inspiring and our people warm and welcoming! We would love to see you again! OUR MISSION: The mission of Windcrest United Methodist Church is to make new disciples of Jesus Christ for the Week of March 4, 2018 3rd Sunday of Lent Like us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/windcrestumc Here are a few things to know about our church: We believe in grace. We believe in the forgiving grace of God. We also believe in extending grace toward one another. That means that we can be authentic about who we are and the things about which we struggle. In a world that admires getting ahead, we believe Christ is the one who makes us whole. We are all equal in our need for him. There are many places in our church life where you can receive and extend grace - retreats, small groups, worship services, Sunday School classes, mission trips, ministry opportunities. We love to study. We have several Bible Studies being taught both in the evenings and in the day time. Some are topical: others focus on a particular part of Scripture. You don t need to be a member of our church to join any of our studies. We love kids! We feel very strongly about providing for our children and youth everything they need to develop a strong faith and be equipped to face the world. Our children s ministry uses a variety of ways to instill the Word of God into the heart of a child. It dramatically shapes a child's life and it is just plain fun! There is a place for you. It doesn t matter where you have been or what you have done. You may feel far from God or closer than you have ever been. If you do not have a church home, we invite you to be a part of what God is doing in us and through us. We thank you for visiting. 16/March 4, 2018 Worship Services: Sundays Traditional 8:15 & 9:30 am Contemporary Praise 11:00 am Wednesdays 6:15 pm BIBLE STUDIES & SMALL GROUPS SUNDAYS @ 9:30 am The Inquirers-McClung Bldg., 302 Millennium Miracles (M&M)-McClung Bldg., 303 The Searchers-McClung Bldg., 305 SUNDAYS @10:45 am Builders Class-McClung Bldg., 301 SUNDAYS @ 11:00 am Good News Bible Study-McClung Bldg., 303 The Procrastinators-McClung Bldg., 305 SENIOR PASTOR S BIBLE STUDY Tuesdays 10:00 am Bayless Hall MEN S BIBLE STUDY Mondays 7:00 pm - room 305 Palm Sunday Worship Service, 3/25 8:15, 9:30 & 11:00 am No service on Wednesday 3/28/18 Maundy Thursday, 3/29/18 7:00 pm Good Friday, 3/30/18 7:00 pm Easter Sunrise Service, 4/1/18 6:30 am Easter Worship Service, 4/1/18 8:15, 9:30 & 11:00 am Coming Soon An Evening of Songs and Their Stories March 18 A Walk Through Holy Week March 30 8101 Midcrown, Windcrest, Texas 78239 210 654-0404 210 654-0674 www.windcrestumc.org 1\March 4, 2018

Family Lent Devotional Family Lenten Devotional Week 3 Week of March 4: A Place of Worship Scripture: John 2:13-22 Symbol: Coins Discussion & Activity: As you read the Scripture, pass coins from one person to another. While this may be a familiar story for you, it may also feel out of place. We are used to this being part of what we consider during Holy Week. In the Gospel of John, it is placed early in Jesus ministry. Luke 19:46 contains this verse: And he said, My house shall be a house of prayer ; but you have made it a den of robbers. We often have interesting reactions to money. On the one hand, money helps us obtain shelter, food, and things we need for living. It enables us to take care of the poor, feed the hungry, and give so that others may come to know the love of God. On the other hand, money can also end up being the source of worship instead of God. Jesus is reminding us that the purpose of the temple isn t for the exchange of goods. It is for worship of God. Do you have a place in your home that helps you worship God? Maybe it s the table where you place a family Bible. Maybe it s a chair near a picture that reminds you of God. Maybe it s a worship center where you have placed a cross. If you don t have a place in your home that reminds you to stop and worship God, together decide on a place that will help you do so. Put something in the place you ve selected to remind you of God: a Bible, a cross, a picture of Jesus, a poster of a Bible verse. Decide on a project -- either through your church or that you can do on your own -- that helps those in need. Collect money for the remainder of Lent to give to this project. Make a container in which to place the money you will donate. Take time for family members to say how they are doing with what they have added to and given up in their life. Prayer: Dear Lord. Help us in our worship of you. Help us have places where we can recall the stories of your love, think about your son, Jesus, and all that he taught us, and give thanks for the world you have created. Help us see ways to aid those in need. Amen. 14/March 4, 2018 3/March 4, 2018

Windcrest Day School & Child Development center is delighted to share with our church family that we were awarded another five-year term of accreditation with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). I am very proud of the hard work from the teaching staff, and their dedication to our school and the field of early-childhood education. In order to achieve this our school had to meet ten NAEYC program standards that are based on the latest research in education. We had to meet 100% of the required criteria and 80% of other criteria upon which we were assessed within each standard to achieve NAEYC accreditation. These standards are: Join us for Cake and punch in the Gathering Place on Sunday, March 4, to celebrate Ruth Grubbs Parker s 100th Birthday. 1. Promoting positive relationships between children and teachers. 2. Implementing a curriculum that supports learning. 3. Teaching that supports curriculum goals. 4. Establishing a system of assessment for children s learning. 5. Promoting the health of children. 6. Employing teachers who have a professional commitment. 7. Maintaining relationships with families. 8. Identifying community resources to support goals. 9. Maintaining a safe physical environment. 10. Having program management follow policies to maintain high-quality experiences for children, families, and staff. We are delighted to offer our community a high quality early-childhood program. M & M Sunday School Class Visit www.windcrestumc.org for updates and information on other activities Windcrest WUMW will be offering the Linda S. Short Memorial Scholarship to first year college, technical, or vocational students from our church. The cost of higher education is quite expensive, and scholarships are a wonderful way to assist promising and deserving students with the costs of their education. The youth of our church have been so helpful in any way possible to us all, and these scholarships will help show our love and appreciation to them. The funds for these scholarships come from UMW activities held each year that raise money for mission work, however we are always thankful for any donations. If you feel led to contribute to this fund, no matter how small, please contact Sue Strickland, President of WUMW. Scholarship applications will be available a the UMW table located in the Gathering Place beginning the first Sunday in March. You can also pick one up in the church office or from the Youth Director, Dawn Crews. UMW Social Corner As we prepare to vote in the Primary Election this Tuesday, March 6th, let us think of this excerpt from Franklin Graham: Spaghetti Sauce Dear Church Family, The Food Pantry would like to thank you for all the donations you have given us. At this time we have a supply of canned pasta, soup & vegetables. We are in need of Spaghetti Sauce, Jelly (plastic jar please), & Peanut Butter (15oz or 16oz please). Praying for those in authority means that we are constantly asking that the Lord will open their hearts to the truth of the Gospel message, and receive Christ as their Savior. Born-again leaders have the indwelling person of the Holy Spirit to guide them as they seek to govern. I can t help but ask myself if all Christians had fulfilled this admonition and been faithful to pray for our leaders, would our nation even our world be different today? Can our diligent, heartfelt prayers make a difference for the future? Most certainly. Prayer is the Christian s greatest weapon in a world that seems to be coming apart around us. Praying for Those in Authority is a Biblical Command By Franklin Graham September 30, 2014 Marilyn Olivarez, Social Action Chairman WUMW All of the above items can be purchased at the Dollar Tree or the.99 Store. Thank you again for helping our Neighbors. If you feel led to help out, please consider these donations when you are out doing your grocery shopping. They will have a table or cart in the Gathering Place each Sunday to collect the items and stock the shelves of the pantry. Thank you so much for your help and support of our Neighbors Helping Neighbors ministry. To see video please go to www.wincrestumc.org or the Church Facebook.
