7th Sunday After Pentecost Saturday, July 7, 2018 5:00 pm Sharing the Shepherd s Love With All of God s Children Welcome to Heritage Worship! Jesus does great deeds of power and gives his disciples authority over demons. Yet none of this power is unilateral; it all must be received by faith. Jesus asks his disciples to go out without money or supplies, so that they will be dependent on how others receive them. When we are sent from the assembly to witness and to heal, we are asked to be vulnerable, to be dependent on the reception of others. The Spirit always operates in the between: between Jesus and his Abba, between Jesus and us, between you and me, between us and those to whom we are sent. Gathering The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God. PRELUDE On the altar are the Holy Communion kits which are taken to our people who, for a variety of reasons cannot attend worship, to help them share in our celebration of the Lord s Supper. PRAYERS OF GOD S PEOPLE Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. SHARING THE PEACE OF JESUS The Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you. Meal God feeds us with the presence of Jesus Christ. MINISTRY & MISSION HIGHLIGHTS OFFERING PRAYER Bless these gifts, that they may serve your world with power. Bless our lives, that we may serve your world with love. Bless each of us, that we may answer your call to lead and to serve where we are needed most. Amen. OFFERING AND ANTHEM Word of God Speak Our offering is a significant act of worship, and we now worship God through our giving. God s mission and ministry for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is completely dependent upon your faithful and generous giving. OFFERING SONG Create in Me a Clean Heart Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with your free Spirit. (Ps. 51:10-12) PREPARATION FOR THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory. In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the cross, opened his arms to all. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrection, and ascension, we await his coming in glory. Pour out upon us the Spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of all who share this heavenly food, the body and blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord; to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and forever. Amen. 5
