Rabbi Avram Rothman Live from Israel with Rabbi Yair Spitz From Zion to the Zion Room We are pleased to announce that Rabbi Spitz will return to ATCS to conduct a weekly class exploring the Midrashim in the Torah. The classes will be run live via teleconference and allow the audience to interact with Rabbi Spitz in real time. The class will run Sundays at 4:00 pm in the Zion room, and will last for approximately 1 hour. The cost is $50 for the series of 10 classes. Payment can be provided when arriving. Sholosh Seudot Halacha Discussion Reuven was walking down the street one night when a man came up to him with a strange request. Excuse me sir, he said. I can see that you are a religious Jew. I am the owner of this photo studio over here, and I would like to know if you could please help me put tefillin on a boy who just came in to pose for his bar mitzvah pictures. He can t manage to put them on by himself, and I don t know how to help him. Would you mind coming in for a few minutes to help? Since it is forbidden to wear tefillin at night (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 30:2), Reuven realized that the boy in question must be from a non religious family. In addition to the general prohibition against wearing tefillin at night, Reuven wondered if it might be disrespectful to the sanctity of tefillin to use them as a prop for a photo session. On the other hand, perhaps the pictures of their son putting on tefillin might encourage the parents to lead a more observant lifestyle. As the holidays fall early this year, we would appreciate receiving your completed forms as soon as you have the opportunity. Also, keep in mind, if you would like to request a reduction in dues, please submit your request in writing to theshul@aish.com and we will discretely and respectfully be in touch with you. We are unable to accept membership forms returned to the office which indicates a reduction in dues that has not been raised in advance with us. We remind you that all requests are treated with utmost respect and total discretion. We have included in your packet forms for the yearly ATCS Yizkor Book, allowing members to honour their loved ones in advance of the four yearly Yizkors. New this year, one can complete the Yizkor Book forms on line by going to: thornhillshul.com/form/yizkorbook Finally, do we have your correct information? From Yahrzeits to email and from birthdays to office addresses, the Shul wants to be sure that our information is accurate. The most efficient way to verify our information is for you to do it yourself through your account on the Shul website. The account is secure and private.
