BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHEDRAL Mother Church and Parish of the Diocese of Greensburg Coat of Arms of The Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic, J.C.L. Bishop of Greensburg The Thirty - Second Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ November 12, 2017 CATHEDRAL ACTIVE SENIORS Magi Ministry 2017 Magi Ministry 2016 Magi Ministry is an opportunity for all parishioners to participate in the St. Vincent de Paul Society s annual sharing of food and gifts with our neighbors in need. A Delicious Bake Sale for a Great Cause! November 18-19 The Cathedral Active Seniors Group will be sponsoring a bake sale to benefit our parish social ministry. The money raised from the bake sale will be used to purchase Christmas poinsettias for those in our parish who are homebound or in nursing homes. We need volunteers! Please call the parish office at 724-834-3710 if you can bake or volunteer during the bake sale! Stop in the Cathedral Hall after the 5:30 PM Mass on Saturday, November 18, or the 7:00, 9:00 or 11:30 AM Masses on Sunday, November 19! Purchase some delicious baked goods while helping our care ministry reach out to those who are not able to be with us to worship. The Magi humbly shared precious gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh with the infant Jesus. We are grateful to be able to assist those who are less fortunate in our area. Our Annual Magi trees are located in the vestibule of the Church. Begin this blessed season with the gift of caring and giving. Take an envelope from the Magi Tree and help those less fortunate. Simply return the envelope to the parish office or drop it in the offertory basket during Mass. Make checks payable to BSC and in the memo portion make a notation for Magi Ministry. NO GIFT CARDS PLEASE! We need your helping hands! Looking to volunteer? Have any questions? Please contact: Betty Rua at 724-454-7107 or Sue Cummings at 724-836-0839

Bible Study Cancellation Bible study has been cancelled for November 15. In acknowledging the Real Presence of Christ, the Tabernacle Candle will burn from November 11 through November 17 in loving memory of William and Dolores Daerr from their daughter, Sharon. A child is a precious gift from God and baptism is God s gift wrapping. We recently welcomed Haven Milan Price into the parish community through the saving waters of Baptism. We rejoice for him and his parents and all who celebrate their newborn lives in the family of God. Psalm 63:2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 Persistence and constancy will enrich us with a taste of the divine presence. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 or 4:13-14 The apostle consoles us concerning the fate of our dearly departed. Matthew 25:1-13 Pay now, receive later? Delayed gratification will surely pay off in the spiritual life. A consistent theme of these weeks leading to Advent is akin to the motto of the U.S. Coast Guard: Semper paratus: Always ready. For what? The military remains ready for threats or disasters like a tornado or flood, but Jesus call to be ready always is neither a threat nor a prediction of catastrophe. It is his expectation that we be aware of the presence of the sacred as we move through even the most ordinary day. Mary Oliver suggests the same in her poem The Summer Day : I don t know exactly what a prayer is. / I do know how to pay attention. Being prepared for the coming of Christ means keeping eyes and ears, hearts and minds open. The sacred, the Christ, is all around you. Parish Support Due to the early transmission of the bulletin for Veterans Day, the Parish Support for November 5 will appear in upcoming bulletins, Online Giving is an easy way to make your weekly contributions (www.osvonlinegiving.com/584). If Online Giving is not an option for you, please consider writing a check for added security as opposed to putting cash in your weekly envelope. The annual Diocesan Poverty Relief Fund and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) collection will be held Nov. 18-19. Seventy-five percent of the funds collected will stay in the diocese to support local needs, and 25 percent of the funds will go to Catholic Relief Services for overseas relief efforts. If you or your business owes at least $3,500 in taxes to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2017, there is a limited opportunity for you to redirect your Pennsylvania tax dollars to provide Tuition Assistance for Aquinas Academy and allows our parish to reduce our diocesan school assessment in the process. The opportunity only lasts through December 31, 2017. Please contact Msgr. Ray for more information. Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Pot Luck Luncheon This Sunday! November 12, 2017 (immediately after the 11:30 AM Mass) Join us for a Pot Luck Luncheon in Social Hall. Bring your favorite dish (entree, side, dessert), and we will provide the drinks. Come and enjoy a few hours of fellowship with your parish family. There will be coloring pages for the kids as well. We hope to see many of you here for this lovely event! Saints for Sinners - The Lives of St. Augustine and St. Margaret ($4 Saint CD) Learning about the lives of the Saints is a great way to deepen our love of God and recommit us to His service. We are reminded of how the Lord works in the lives of ordinary people, helping us to conquer sin. In this excerpt from the book, Saints for Sinners, the incredible lives of these Saints testify to the truth of God's transforming love in those who are willing to surrender their lives to Him. These are the stories of St. Augustine of Hippo and St. Margaret of Cortona. Encounter Christ First: Then Set the World on Fire ($4 Evangelization CD) Curtis Martin, founder of FOCUS and world renowned authority on evangelization, shares how a personal encounter with Jesus is the key to following him with fidelity, gratitude, and joy. With humor and relatable examples, he also shows how experiencing Christ before evangelizing others is the biblical model witnessed to by the Apostles, and one that is certain to bear fruit in the life of any believer. Anyone dealing with the death of a loved one and wondering how to get through the upcoming holiday season is invited to attend the holiday bereavement support group meeting at Saint Vincent Parish in Latrobe on Monday, November 20 at 7 PM in the parish center conference room.
