Ephesians 5:1 14 Lesson 18 FIRST DAY: Review and Overview 1. What particular lesson did you receive last week about the new man? 2. Our Father in heaven is loving, gracious, and righteous! Just as children imitate and follow their earthly fathers, so as God s dear children we are to be imitators of God. This means, as believers, we are to walk in love and light. In Ephesians 5:1 14 Paul provided specific instructions for both how to and how not to walk after God. Read the passages below and cite the do s and don ts of each section: a. Ephesians 5:1 2 b. Ephesians 5:3 7 c. Ephesians 5:8 10 d. Ephesians 5:11 14 3. Ask the Lord to help you to be an imitator of God. Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. FIFTH DAY: Read Ephesians 5:11 14 1. Link Ephesians 5:7 with Ephesians 5:11a. What did Paul seek to emphasize? a. Who do you think Paul is talking about? See 1 Corinthians 5:9 13. b. How did Paul describe the works of darkness? Ephesians 5:11 (1) Link this with Romans 6:21. Share your thoughts. c. In Greek, the word expose means to reprove or correct. Connect this with Galatians 6:1 and briefly explain how to deal with sin. Ephesians 5:11b 2. Why should we not even speak of the works of darkness? Ephesians 5:12a a. How are the works of darkness done? Ephesians 5:12b (1) Although these things are done this way, what comfort do you find in Hebrews 4:13? 3. In the NLT Ephesians 5:13 reads, But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them. Why is this a comfort to those who walk in the light? See also Matthew 10:26. a. How is this a warning to those who are not walking in the light? 4. From Ephesians 5:14 record the invitation of God to those in darkness. a. Link this invitation with Isaiah 60:1.
