Page 3 Dear Friends in Christ, We, as a Catholic Church, are constantly affected by civil law. A new labor law will take effect in December. I think, at its heart, it intends to improve the situation of workers here in the United States of America. This law, however, will significantly change how the Catholic Church does business. Because you will be impacted by this law at St. Mary s, I want to share with you some suggestions. The law requires me to exercise great discipline and supervision over the working hours of our employee/ ministers. That being said, I ask you to plan as much as possible to get your business done during business hours. It will not be possible in the future for our employees to take business calls on their home phones after hours and to conduct parish business on their own time. Because I saw this situation coming, I decided last year to live close to the church and to publish my cell phone number in the bulletin. For true emergencies and important parish business, please call me anytime. If I am around and not occupied, I will be happy to respond immediately. Feel free to leave me voicemail and email messages anytime. I will get back to you just as soon as I can. I regret that I am unable to control this situation in a way that will provide for more ministry instead of less ministry. My staff and I will explore every option so as to continue our excellent ministry here at St. Mary s. Fr. Su amigo y servidor ~ Padre Jesús Camacho Stewardship is not a well known word, but it is significant in our relationship with God and others. Stewardship signifies that all that we have comes from God to serve others. Because of this, stewardship is about responsibility and offering. What do we have that has not been given by God and that which we have received is for the good of all? (see 1 Cor 12, 4-7). In other words, we have to be accountable to God for all that we have received: qualities, abilities, special gifts, economic resources, etc. The best that we can do is use what we have to serve others. We learn this in our own families, because we feel part of them, because we know that we belong to them. So also, the parish is a family of families and there is great opportunity to be good stewards. I propose that we ask ourselves these questions to find out if we are good stewards: 1) What gifts or talents do I have to offer the parish community? 2) Do I feel that the parish is part of my family? Do I know the activities of the parish? Do I commit myself to help with any of them? 3) How do I contribute to the needs of the parish? Have I chosen a ministry in which I can help? We have a parish ministry guide that offers many opportunities. If you are thinking of helping in any way, please contact the parish office. Currently we are seeking help with the hospitality committee. Your friend and servant ~ Padre Jesús Camacho

Page 4 ONLINE GIVING COMING SOON! Online giving will soon be available for parishioners, making donating simple, safe, and secure. Be sure to check the bulletin in the coming weeks for more information or call the parish office if you have any questions! ST. MARY'S HOLIDAY MARKET will host over 25 local vendors. Enjoy authentic homemade tamales and baked goods while shopping in a warm, festive atmosphere. The kids will stay busy in our Kids Corner making crafts and frosting cookies. Come celebrate the season with us while scratching some holiday to-do s off you list! The market is held December 2 from noon-6pm and December 3 from 10am-5pm in the St. Mary s school gym. Thanks to the generosity of St. Mary s parishioners, Payette Brewing and its Monday night regulars, Independent Meats (Falls Brand), Brat-Grill Masters Bob Parsley and Zach Yunker and MWI Animal Health (cooker), we generated a record $1,322 for St. Mary s Food Bank. Thanks so much! Jane and John Francis PICTURE DIRECTORY Many have questioned when our parish picture directory will be available. The estimated delivery date is between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We had an interruption of service this summer on our computers that put us behind in design and editing. We appreciate your patience. THANKSGIVING FOOD BOX DRIVE The annual Thanksgiving Food Box Drive is just around the corner. This is an opportunity for parishioners to provide a Thanksgiving meal for a family in need. If you have not picked up a shopping list, you can come by the parish office during the week to get your list. The items on the shopping list cost about $50. If you are unable to shop, we can convert your monetary donation into a Thanksgiving dinner. Boxes will be collected on Sunday morning, Nov. 20 at the Lowell Elementary School parking lot. We are collecting at that location to help with the parking at St. Mary s during the Sunday Masses. UNDIE SUNDAY WEEKEND FOR CORPUS CHRISTI IS HERE St. Mary s has coordinated a collection of new or gently used socks, underclothing and warm clothing for the homeless in Boise for several years prior to Thanksgiving. This is our twelfth year to help clothe those in need. Our collections have been a major witness to the generosity of our parishioners and many others. Receptacles will remain in the Narthex of the church for your gifts until November 21. Thank you for taking part in this ministry! THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the sacraments of Christian initiation. The reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed. CCC 1285. As part of the Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis, we will offer the sacrament of Confirmation on November 27 for adults who have not previously received the sacrament. For more information please contact Meg Lawless at 344-2597 or you can email mlawless@stmarysboise.org. ALL SOULS DAY ENVELOPES All Souls Day envelopes are in the narthex for those wishing to make a donation to have Mass said in memory of a deceased loved one during the month of November. NOVEMBER BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE The Book of Remembrance is displayed in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel during the month of November. You may include names of your deceased loved ones. They will be remembered during all Masses in November. ARE YOU A TRAVELING CATHOLIC? When you are heading out of town for vacation or any other occasion, do you find it difficult to get to Mass on Sundays? There is a very simple way to access Mass times for over 117,000 churches for traveling Catholics. You can get more information at www.masstimes.org or call (734)-794-2100.

What better time to do a retreat? Sometimes people think they can t afford the time away from Christmas preparation but once they get here, they realize they gain so much more about the meaning of Christmas. The retreat prepares the heart, prepares the ground for seed to grow. The Advent Retreat runs from December 1 through 18. Within that time, a person can customize a retreat that fits his or her schedule. Suggested donation: $85/night (includes meals and lodging). FROM FATHER FAUCHER.. I have been asked about the possibility of buying my books for Christmas. We have bundled all five of my books presently for sale. The whole bundle of five books is $50, much less than purchasing them individually. They are available at the parish office and would make truly fine Christmas gifts. ~Thank you, Father Tom Faucher Do you know someone who is lonely, homebound or not in touch with other people? We are reaching out to the parish for help in identifying these people of our faith community. If you know of someone who would benefit from a visit from the faith community nurses, please call the parish office, 344-2597.
