People sometimes break promises; God never does.

Everything about our CHRISTIAN FAITH rises or falls on whether or JESUS CHRIST truly arose from the dead on the third day as the scriptures tell us.

Lesson Text: Luke 24:1-12, 30-35 King James Version (KJV) Sunday, April 1, 2018 I. THE WOMEN: THEY VISIT THE TOMB (Luke 24:1-11) 1. Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. 2. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. 3. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. 4. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: 5. And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 6. He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7. Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands

of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 8. And they remembered his words, 9. And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. 10. It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. 11. And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. II. PETER: INVESTIGATING THE TOMB (Luke 24:12) 12. Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass. III. THE TRAVELLING DISCIPLES: THEY MEET THE RISEN SAVIOUR (Luke 24:30-35) 30. And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.

31. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 32. And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? 33. And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, 34. Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. 35. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread. New International Version (NIV) I. THE WOMEN: THEY VISIT THE TOMB (Luke 24:1-11) 1. On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,

3. but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6. He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7. The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again. 8. Then they remembered his words. 9. When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11. But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. II. PETER: INVESTIGATING THE TOMB (Luke 24:12)

12. Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened. III. THE TRAVELLING DISCIPLES: THEY MEET THE RISEN SAVIOUR (Luke 24:30-35) 30. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32. They asked each other, Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us? 33. They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34. and saying, It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon. 35. Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

PRACTICAL POINTS FOR DISCUSSION: 1. Nothing should hinder us from serving our Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 24:1). 2. We can make plans, but God s plans can override ours (Luke 24:2-3). 3. Life may confuse us, but remember that God is still in control (Luke 24:4-6). 4. If Jesus said it, it will come to pass (Luke 24:7-8). 5. People may not believe us, but that should not stop us from sharing the gospel with others (Luke 24:9-12). 6. Time spent in God s Word is valuable time spent with Jesus (Luke 24:30-35). ***The Bible Expositor and Illuminator, Union Gospel Press***
