Text: Psalm 4 INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Meditation 1 Announcements 4 Weekday Ministries 6 Worship 7 Poetry 8 Bible Memory Work 9 This Week @ Worship 11 Bethany III 18 September 2016 MICA (P) No.: 030/10/2012 MEDITATION Rev Dr Charles Tan HEAR MY PRAYER A PLEA TO GOD The Psalmist David learned much about prayer through actual experience in prayer. He did not take for granted that God had to hear his prayers at all. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer. Psalm 4:1 (continued on page 2)

MEDITATION (Continued from page 1) WHY WOULD GOD HEAR AND ANSWER OUR PRAYERS? Let us ponder what the Psalmist David wrote in Psalm 4 to figure out the answer to this question. 1. Because of who God is a) He is our God b) He is a God of righteousness c) He is the God who imputes righteousness to us 2. Because of His merciful nature a) He is abundant in mercy b) He will hear and answer because He is our God of great mercy 3. Because of how God has heard and answered prayer in the past a) He has granted relief in times of distress b) He will yet hear and answer prayers UNDERSTANDING WHAT GOD EXPECTS OF US Does God expect us to do our part before He hears and answers prayer? The answer is Yes. 1. God has set apart those who are godly Psalm 4:3 (Continued on page 3) page 2

MEDITATION (Continued from page 2) a) Thus we must seek to be godly b) We should naturally desire to be godly 2. God does not want us to sin Psalm 4:4 a) We need to deal with our anger problems b) We need to learn how to be still and meditate before the Lord 3. God wants us to trust fully in Him Psalm 4:5 a) He wants us to worship Him with sacrifices of righteousness b) He wants us to be righteous in our life THE BLESSINGS OF THE LORD What are some blessings the Lord will graciously bestow as He answers our prayers? 1. He will put gladness in our heart 2. He will enable us to dwell in safety 3. We can rest in the Lord fully Write to me at: charlestan@bethanyipc.sg page 3

You, O God, sent a plentiful rain, Whereby You confirmed Your inheritance, when it was weary. 1. At the Presence of God Your congregation dwelt in it; You, O God, provided from Your goodness for the poor. a) Rain descended b) Sinai was moved 2. POETRY CORNER I LAY DOWN AND SLEPT Sleeping comes naturally to little babies, Few things bother, there are no worries. Sleeping becomes harder with anxiety, Sleeping soundly is no longer a reality. The body is tired but the mind cannot rest, The heart is fearful, the spirit is pressed. Only in prayer can the soul find repose, In turning to God the soul can be composed. In response to faith, the Lord becomes a shield, He is the Giver of glory, the heart may be still. The Lord will hear the heartfelt cry of His child, He will protect them from enemies, wicked and wild. The comforted soul may find sleep in the Lord, He need not stay hopelessly awake in God. The Lord gives His beloved child the rest he needs, God will sustain him and strengthen him indeed! Inspiration: Psalm 5:5-6 Charles Tan page 8

TODAY: 18 September 2016 PSALM 20:7 BUT WE WILL REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE LORD OUR GOD Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. 1. What we tend to trust in a) Chariots b) Horses These were part of a powerful army in the early days. Many trusted in military might. Many still have this same sense of trust! 2. We should be trusting in the Lord a) This is the correct alternative b) Let us remember the name of the Lord our God! 3. How do we practise remembering the Lord s name? a) Let us recall what the Lord has done i) For Israel ii) For us b) Let us read the Lord s word BIBLE MEMORY WORK i) In the Scriptures are recorded many wonderful deeds of God page 9

BIBLE MEMORY WORK (Continued from page 9) ii) They are highly instructive iii) They are highly inspirational c) Let us hide the knowledge of God i) In our heart ii) In our mind d) Let us actively remember what the Lord has done i) We exercise faith ii) We focus on having faith in the Lord NEXT SUNDAY: 25 September 2016 PSALM 25:1 I TRUST IN YOU To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
