Page 2 Mission Voice October 2017 Kathy s Korner Kathy Rolen President Greetings, It has been a pleasure and joy to represent you as President of the Missouri Conference United Methodist Women the past four years. I have been blessed with the support and love from my Sisters in Christ during my tenure. Wonderful activities were carried on throughout the year. Some of those to mention were the Spiritual Growth Retreat, Mission u, Mini Mission, and Mission Walk at the Church Annual Conference. As we are looking into 2018, we are making plans for National Assembly to be held May 18-20, 2018, in Columbus, Ohio. Our giving for mission, above and beyond what we give to our local church, is always something we can stand up and say we are pleased to share. Sisters in Christ of the Missouri Conference, I give a special thanks to each and every one of you for your commitments. I would ask each of you to continue to work in fulfilling the PURPOSE of the United Methodist Women as you reach out to your local communities, the State of Missouri and the World. Blessings, Kathy Rolen President Missouri Conference United Methodist Women 2014-2017 Secretary Notes Sandy McConnell It s that time of year again! Hopefully all of our units are making plans for 2018 and electing new officers. Districts will also be electing new officers for 2018 and I need all this information by early December! This year I am requesting only the changes you are making to your Mission Teams! That s right! I want only the changes which hopefully will make your job easier to report to me. I know it will make my job easier for the 2018 Directory of Missouri Conference United Methodist Women. Also, I want to know if there are new units or if any of the units in your district have folded. If you can get this to me on a timely basis, I will send the district secretary a printout of the 2018 information for your district to be proofread. Questions? Sandy McConnell, Secretary Missouri Conference United Methodist Women 816-224-4603 sandysown@hotmail.com Left: Pooh Mack, Program Resources, read us a book from the Children s list! Also note all the diapers we collected for the Diaper Bank of the Ozarks! Way to Go! Right: Bishop Farr made an appearance at our meeting and greeted us!
October 2017 Mission Voice Page 3 Mission u Two successful Mission u events for 2017 are in the books and a third one is coming in the spring. July 27-30, 2017, found us on the campus of Central Methodist University. Our hands-on project of making sleeping mats for the homeless from plastic bags had people of all ages involved in the process as there were several steps involved. Plastic bags were in abundant supply as many folks set about cutting them into strips so they could be made into plarn that could then be crocheted into the sleeping mats. Some units sent their bags already cut into strips. Children s books and a few school supplies were collected which were then sent to Henderson Settlement in the Red Bird Missionary Conference for use in their school library. Used crayons were collected to be sent to the Crayon Initiative to be made into new flat, crayons that will be sent to children s hospitals and rehab facilities to help children and people who are learning to use their hands after an injury or accident. The studies: Living In a Covenant Community, Missionary Conferences of the UMC in the United States, and Climate Justice: A Call to Hope and Action were well received and attendees had positive remarks about information learned and having their faith deepened. September 8 & 9 at Platte Woods UMC was our Mission u in the Fall weekend. Living In a Covenant Community and the Missionary Conferences were the studies for the weekend. Our hands on mission project of the sleeping mats was also present with a number of folks being interested and lending a helping hand or took information and the instructions home for use in their local church. April 13 and 14, 2018, will find Mission u in the Spring taking place at the Farmington United Methodist Church. The studies will be Living In a Covenant Community and the Missionary Conferences. Registration forms as well as online registration will be available January 1, 2018.

Dollars & Cents Our year is three-quarters of the way to being completed and I want to commend all of the districts for their support of helping the Missouri Conference meet its pledge for 2017. SMR pin orders have been coming in on a regular basis. If you have not ordered pins for your end of year recognition, by all means do so. DO NOT wait until the last minute to order. Once again, I encourage district treasurers to send money you receive on at least a monthly basis. Doing so makes for easier record keeping both on your part and my part. Money for SMR pins needs to be sent when the pins are ordered and not waiting until you send a monthly or quarterly report. With the end of the year approaching, please remember money for 2017 needs to be sent to me no later than December 20, 2017. That will allow me to be able to get it recorded and deposited by the end of the year. Your fourth quarter and end of year reports should be mailed by January 15, 2018. You can certainly send them earlier if you have them done. Liz Rooks Conference Treasurer P.S.: Local unit treasurers please be sure and get your money submitted to your district treasurer in a timely manner.
