Holiday Parent News December 15, 2016 Upcoming Events Fri., Dec 16- Mon., Jan 3 - Christmas Break Tues., Jan 3, 2017 - Spring Semester Begins Wed. Jan. 4-7 HS All State Choir Festival Knock, Knock? How many of you have heard or told a knock knock joke? How much laughter was there? Most of the time knock, knock jokes are not too funny, at least not the ones I have told or heard. The Christmas story as told in Luke tells us that Joseph and Mary had to travel to Bethlehem as required by Caesar Augustus. As they arrived they could not find a place to stay. I imagine they knocked on many doors and were told there were no rooms available. The town was super busy and everyone had too many things on their own lists to do to help out Mary and Joseph. Finally it came time to deliver the Baby so they had no other choice but to go to a stable. Christmas carols like Away in the Manger, Silent Night, and others paint a romantic picture of Christmas. I imagine it was not quite like we sing. I wonder if we are today as busy as the town and people of Bethlehem? I think we are even more distracted and discounting of others around us. Our schedules are too full, we have too many things to do and to think about. Shopping, going, eating, and celebrating. Do we even hear the knock on our our door? Not our physical doors, but the door to our hearts? Revelations 3:20 we hear Jesus state Listen! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me. How interesting it is that Jesus was knocking at a door to find a place to be born and yet today He is still knocking and we are still too busy to let Him in. I believe the greatest hindrance to knowing Jesus better is getting the big I or Me out of the way so that the GREAT I AM, Emmanuel, God with us, Prince of Peace, can come in. It is my prayer that we will intentionally say no to the busyness of the season and say yes to Jesus. Knock, Knock? Who's There? It is I, Jesus, will you invite me in? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Dr. Don McGavran
