A Letter from Father... Page 2 August 14, 2016 Shirley Hanagan RIP Shirley Hanagan died. For most of you here at St. Francis de Sales you did not know her. For many who were part of the adoration chapel Committee, she was well known. She was very active in organizing the Adorers as to the time and day in which they were assigned to be present. She was always concerned that the chapel was well maintained. She belonged to St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish and that would be another reason she was no well known to us, the St. Francis de Sales Parishioners. It is always sad when we lose someone who is so active in a ministry. In this case I am very sad, not so much that Shirley died. I know that she is now with the Lord, but I am sad that Shirley died in her home and was discovered only after five days of her dying! She lived alone and had no one. Her neighbors called the police when after sometime they sensed that something was wrong as her car was never moved. I am sad and maybe amazed at myself for not noticing her not being here. All too often it is that way - we are too busy to notice I image we all know someone who lives alone and maybe has no one to check up on them. I am sure that as we continue to form our parish family, it is important to be vigilant about members of this parish family, a neighbor or someone we know that is alone. We have to take the time to notice, to take the time to make a call or drop in. Let us pray for Shirley. May she be surrounded by a multitude of angles who will always notice her and care for her. Peace, Are you being called to serve? VOLUNTEER FOR CHRIST TODAY. The recent passing of Shirley Hanagan has left a huge void in the operations of our SFDS Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. She served as the coordinator for Tuesday (12:00 am - 6:00 am & 6:00 pm - midnight), Wednesday (12:00 am midnight), Thursday (6:00pm - 11:00 PM) and Fridays (6:00 am - 6:00 pm). All of these position must be filled to keep your parish chapel open 24/7. There should be a coordinator for each 12 or 24 hours. Parish & Community Activities Page 3 August 7, 2016 Diocese Development Fund (DDF) Update: 247 out of 969 (25%) registered parish families have made a pledge or contribution to the Diocesan Development fund (DDF). By September 1, 2016 the goal is to have 90% (872 pledges) from St. Francis parish families. St. Francis de Sales families have pledged a variety of contributions. The Diocese of San Bernardino uses contributions for five ministries, (1) seminarian formation (2) outreach to those in need (3) land for future churches (4) support for priests and (5) education for children. We have classes from Kindergarten through High School. The cost is $100 for one child, $120 for two children and $140 for three or more children. Only checks and cash will be accepted as payment. If you will be paying with cash, please bring exact change. New students will not be registered without a Baptism certification. The mandatory parent meeting will be held on Sunday, September 18.
