God s hand is all things. His will is often defined as two-fold, permitting things here and ordaining things there. Through it all God s will is sovereign, even in the midst of freedom, working all things for the good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28). One God reality that I take consolation in is that Sr. Caroline and I share an anniversary date. As if God winked at our life story and lined them up for a time. Sr. Caroline took her solemn vows on July 10 th and I was ordained a priest on July 10 th. This Tuesday is our anniversary! So if you see her (or me) in the coming week, wish us a blessed anniversary! Please pray for us as we move into the next year of ministry here with you. Tuesday is also my mom s birthday, so as a dutiful son, I will spend some time with her (at least the first half of the day). We will have Mass out at the Carmelite Monastery in Denmark, Wisconsin. The Carmelite sisters have been praying for me since I was a senior in high school. I gave them my name long ago when I was thinking about the priesthood and heading off to Marquette University. I slipped a note under the curtain to an unknown nun simply asking them to pray. They have done so faithfully ever since. That was 27 years ago. Incredible. I celebrate 19 years as a priest this year and have never been happier. Lots of work and lots of joy (and lots of mercy!). More seasoned souls like Sr. Caroline have been anchors and witnesses of faith to me along the way. Our staff too has been a powerful example of faith, maturity and willingness to sacrifice, each in their own way. I am learning much. Much still to learn! Summer is upon us and we will pray that its beauty and warmth hold until its proper close. Remember to seek out a parish for Mass if you will be traveling. Though not always easy, it does give the heart a certain gratitude on vacation if you have made the effort to find a Mass to attend, pray and worship. I have found that the vacations on which I have remembered my prayers have made for a much more enjoyable experience, happier memories and a deeper peace of heart. If you can still remember our parish in your stewardship offerings, even while you are away, that would be a super gift! Every bit helps. Again, prayers for a good and safe summer to our travelers! Whatever altar you find yourself at, you are near in the Eucharist. Loved ones near or far, living or deceased, all are near through Christ in the Eucharist. Lastly, I know I have said this before, but I want to thank you all again for the great support of the parish Bishop s Appeal. What a blessing to have come so far with our goal. We surpassed it by nearly $10,000! Half of that overage is returned to our parish. Your generosity is moving to me. Not only do we help the greater church with its needs but we relieve a great amount of stress from our parish from the tax that would be due if we fell short. Fr. Mark Vander Steeg

He gives us the resources we need to do His work. However, do we listen to God when He calls? Do we get up on our feet and use our talent to do the work He asks of us? Remember, God doesn t call the equipped, He equips the called.
