PASTOR S CORNER SEPTEMBER 10, 2017 Dear Friends at Saint Paul: At the beginning of the Summer, I introduced a theme for our Parish Plan. Based on the response, I have been so very impressed by our parishioners willingness to serve. In case you haven't heard: TAG, YOU'RE IT!... Involvement is the Plan! In the next few weeks, it feels to me that the rubber hits the road and we are off to the races. There's no room for complacency when the agenda is as ac on-packed as the following... We need YOU! This weekend, Sign-up for Religious Educa on con nues -- don t miss it! In addi on, you will be asked to sign up for two events where your help is needed for success. The BFC Fun Day will be a great family affair and community involvement event which honors our Police Department in the City of New Bern and allows the whole community to come together. BFC stands for Badge, Faith and Community and this is exactly how this truly great city-wide event has been formed. Ministers of faith groups and the New Bern Police Department have been working diligently for months to ensure another successful BFC Fun Day on Saturday, September 16 th. You can volunteer to help in hour blocks, Friday evening for set-up (Sept 15 th ) and Saturday for supervision of games and children's ac vi es. We are predic ng a much bigger crowd than last year and so we need more volunteers. You may also want to volunteer to WALK or DONATE to the city-wide CROP Walk slated for Sunday, September 24 th. This is a long standing effort that we are newly engaging for both local and interna onal efforts to alleviate hunger. It is a special effort of our AAMEN ministry (African American Ministry and Evangeliza on Network). They are a mul -racial parish group that is looking for your involvement and support. Need I say it? TAG, You're IT! The finishing touches are being made for the PARISH PICNIC on Sunday, October 1 st and the Picnic requires a complete all hands on deck type of response from every parishioner. Please plan on it today. If you have a par cular part of the Picnic that you would like to help with, please let Maggy Costandy and DeLesa Conway know (dconway@spccnb.org). Everyone's looking forward to it. There will be more on the Picnic in coming weeks. Thank you to all you have responded to the mailed request for School RAFFLE ckets. The date for the Raffle event is in October (School Fall Fes val with the Stew, Brew, & Chili, Too Cook off) but the success of the School Raffle requires many cket sales now. It is easy to buy ckets online at the school website (stpaulcs.org) or call the school office 252-633-0100. There are other events for us to PUSH and the bulle n is filled with many worthy causes and important announcements. You will want to spend me with this bulle n, and in the coming weeks, to stay well informed. You'll have to pick and choose because there's so many wonderful things you can do here at Saint Paul! TAG, You're IT! Peace,

OUR LADY OF SORROWS SEPTEMBER 15, 2017 Focusing on the compassion of our Blessed Mother, our Late Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, reminded the faithful, Mary Most Holy goes on being the loving consoler of those touched by the many physical and moral sorrows which afflict and torment humanity. She knows our sorrows and our pains, because she too suffered, from Bethlehem to Calvary. Mary is our Spiritual Mother, and the mother always understands her children and consoles them in their troubles. Therefore, as we honor our Blessed Mother, our Lady of Sorrows, we honor her as the faithful disciple and exemplar of faith. There are two feasts in honor of the Sorrowful Mother: one on the Friday before Palm Sunday, the other in September. h p://www.catholiceduca on.org What do you recommend for a 625th wedding anniversary?
