Valley Isle Fellowship March 23, 2014 Move from Thinking About to Implementing by Pastor Stephen Kaneshiro Now that we are moving into the construction stage of our building in Waikapu, let us not grow weary in the growth of each person to become Christlike in word, deed, and heart. We want you to be freed to become all that Christ wants you to be. We want you to be obedient to Christ at home, at church, at work, at play, and in all other areas of your life. We want to live for Christ in all of these areas in a manner that allows Christ to use you for His glory, honor, and majesty. Let me try to give you a rough idea of what I mean. First, we want you to fall deeply in love with Jesus Christ. When this happens everything else will be put in place, for loving Jesus means that you will be obeying in all areas of your life. Imagine what loving and obeying Jesus will look like at home. The change that it will have on your thought life, your quiet times, your family times, and your time with your neighbors. When Jesus Christ reigns in your home, your home becomes a refreshing place of renewal so that once you step out of your front door, you are now energized to live for Jesus throughout the world that He leads you into. Imagine what loving and obeying Jesus will look like once you leave the front door of your home. Imagine what Jesus and the Holy Spirit might empower you to do in ministering to your neighbors. Imagine what Jesus might do to transform your neighborhood through your life of love and obedience to Jesus Christ. Imagine what loving and obeying Jesus will look like when you arrive at the mission field that He has provided for us. For many of us that mission field is our work. For others, especially those who are retired, it might be that volunteer service or that social group that we have been engaging in. For our young people, it might be school. Wherever that mission field may be, imagine Christ using your love and obedience to Him to transform the people that He has given to you. Imagine what loving and obeying Jesus will look like once we go to that extracurricular activity that we have been led to. It might be that youth sports team/league when you love and obey Jesus at practice, at games, and at parent functions. Imagine what it looks like when you love and obey Jesus in developing the relationships that He leads you to. Imagine what loving and obeying Jesus will look like at Valley Isle Fellowship when we all take to heart loving and obeying Jesus. Imagine VIF where every need (not want, but need) will be met in Jesus Christ. Imagine a VIF where every person is being led by the Lord into ministry and service so that no one gets burned out and every ministry & service area is fully staffed. Imagine a VIF that is developing so many leaders to serve Jesus that new churches and ministries are being formed every year. Imagine a VIF that loses many people each year because they are following the commands of Jesus to go in loving service to Jesus Christ to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the world. What a glorious and wonderful vision of life, as it should be! Is this realistic and possible? I believe that it is. It all starts with each one of us seeking with all of our heart, mind, and soul to love Jesus and to obey Him. Move from Thinking About to Implementing (continued) In seeking to love and obey Jesus with all of my heart, mind, and soul, I have been led to go and volunteer as a Maui Police Chaplain. This will mean that I will be trying to live out loving and obeying Jesus in our community in times of crises and stress. This will be challenging for me and I covet your prayers. I will be doing this ministry in my spare time and will guard my work with VIF. I am praying that this will not hurt but strengthen VIF. Let s all do the most important work of the Lord and that is to love and obey Him. God bless you as you pray about implementing this in your lives. AM Service: Pastor Darren Sarmiento...On Purpose John 11:45-57 NLT The context of this passage is the start of the Gospel. Three things to know: 1. Nothing will stop the will of God. 2. Don t mistake kindness for weakness. 3. How will you feel about the decisions you ll make tomorrow? NOTES: - 3 -
Ponder by Pastor Darren Sarmiento On the Move A Message from Pastor Stephen Kaneshiro Today, I m not going to give you a long devotion. I m not going to try to put words in your mouth and it s not going to take much time to read this. But, it will cost you time to follow through with what I m going to share and ask of you. I want to give you a scripture verse to ponder on. The definition for ponder is, To think carefully about something for a long time before reaching a decision. All I want you to do is spend time with the Lord while you ponder upon the scripture I ll give you, and see for yourself what will happen in your life in the days ahead. That s all I ask of you, if you would take the challenge and see what God will do in your life. Here is the scripture: Matthew 12:30 NLT Jesus says, Anyone who isn t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn t working with me is actually working against me. Last Sunday evening, VIF made the decision to move ahead with the development of our property in Waikapu. Since then, we have secured Fong Construction Company to build the water line project. Work should begin sometime after Easter. Once the work begins, we believe that it will be completed in about 2 months. We are currently preparing to get our building plans submitted to several contractors for their bids. After getting the bids, we will then study them and determine whether we can have a contractor build the whole building or if we will have a contractor build only a portion of the building with all of us doing the rest of it. Once we have a pretty good idea of how we will be handling all of this, we will begin to determine the how-to s of selling our High Street properties. Before we come to a decision on the selling of our High Street properties, we will be calling for another business meeting and give you the opportunity to have a part in the decision making. We are very excited about finally being at this point, but we cannot let our enthusiasm cause us to throw caution to the wind. We have to be a people that will continually seek after the Lord and seek His will, not ours. Let s commit to praying for each other and praying that God s Will is accomplished in all of our lives. Pray that Valley Isle Fellowship will bring nothing but glory and honor to the Lord Jesus Christ. God bless you all. We have finally gotten all of the approvals for both our water line project and our building permit. We are planning to aggressively move ahead to construct both the water line and our building. Therefore, we are going to give you the opportunity to continue to give to the completion of these projects and to the renovations of the trailers that will also be a part of our campus. If we all give as the Lord directs us, we will have all of the resources to do what He desires of us. God bless you all. North American Missions and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering As followers of Christ, our biblical call includes sowing seeds in our own communities. We are all partners in firmly planting the gospel throughout North America. NAMB missionaries are involved in planting churches dedicated to ensuring that those who hear the good news of Jesus are firmly planted in the gospel and are bearing fruit. They need all of us to join with them in the challenge to reach the 263 million people living in the United States and Canada who do not have a personal relationship with Christ. Why Give to Annie Armstrong? Because three of four people in North America are lost. One hundred percent of dollars given to the AAEO go to support thousands of missionaries and their ministries in the United States and Canada. The national goal is $70 million. The Hawaii Pacific Goal is $150,000. If you are being led to give to the offering, you can find the Annie Armstrong envelops at the back table after service. - 5 -
