We seek to be a community that is easy to enter; where you can discover God and yourself; and live a transformed life. God s plan is not to abandon this world, the world which he said was very good. Rather, he intends to remake it. And when he does he will raise all his people to new bodily life in it. That is the promise of the Christian gospel. - N.T. Wright, Simply Christian Let God s promises shine on your problems. -Corrie ten Boom 2

Enter We Enter into the presence of God and of one another. Musical Prelude Please help yourself to a hot or cold drink, or refill the one you have. Enjoy the music as you find a seat wherever you feel comfortable. Welcome please stand Gathering Song Come, people of the risen King Come, people of the Risen King, who delight to bring him praise; come all and tune your hearts to sing to the Morning Star of grace. From the shifting shadows of the earth we will lift our eyes to him, where steady arms of mercy reach to gather children in. Refrain Rejoice, Rejoice! Let every tongue rejoice! One heart, one voice; O Church of Christ, rejoice! Come, those whose joy is morning sun, and those weeping through the night; come, those who tell of battles won, and those struggling in the fight. For his perfect love will never change, and his mercies never cease, but follow us through all our days with the certain hope of peace. Refrain Come, young and old from every land men and women of the faith; come, those with full or empty hands find the riches of His grace. Over all the world, His people sing shore to shore we hear them call the truth that cries through every age: Our God is all in all! Refrain 3

Enter Prayer of the Day O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy, increase and multiply upon us your mercy, that with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Discover We Discover more of God and of ourselves. Reading Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52 read by Colette Grassie Reader Reader A reading from the Gospel According to Matthew. 31 Jesus put before them another parable: The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; 32 it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches. 33 He told them another parable: The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened. The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; 46 on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it. 47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and caught fish of every kind; 48 when it was full, they drew it ashore, sat down, and put the good into baskets but threw out the bad. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous 50 and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 51 Have you understood all this? They answered, Yes. 52 And he said to them, Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old. Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. Thanks be to God. Responsive Song Hear the call of the Kingdom Hear the call of the kingdom, lift your eyes to the King, let his song rise within you as a fragrant offering of how God rich in mercy came in Christ to redeem all who trust in his unfailing grace. 4

Discover Refrain King of Heaven, we will answer the call, we will follow bringing hope to the world; filled with passion, filled with power to proclaim salvation in Jesus' name. Hear the call of the kingdom to be children of light, with the mercy of heaven the humility of Christ; walking justly before him loving all that is right, that the life of Christ may shine through us. Refrain Hear the call of the kingdom to reach out to the lost, with the Father's compassion in the wonder of the cross; bringing peace and forgiveness and a hope yet to come, let the nations put their trust in him. Refrain please be seated Message Richard Webb Your notes: 5

Discover Every week we rotate through one of the following Discovery elements: 1. Q & A with today s speaker 2. Silence 3. Responding through music 4. Take home question of the week: What has the risen Jesus said to you through the parables we ve heard this month? How can you share God s love to make God s kingdom a greater reality in your life? 5. Visuals The Creed People Do you believe and trust in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. please stand People People Do you believe and trust in his Son Jesus Christ? I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. Do you believe and trust in the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. The Prayers of the People read by Meg Finlay Heavenly Father, you have loved us with an everlasting love, but we have gone our own way and broken your laws. We are sorry for our sins and turn away from them. For the sake of your Son who died for us, forgive us, cleanse us and change us. By your Holy Spirit, enable us to live for you, and to please you more and more; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. God, in your mercy, hear our prayer. 6

Discover Giving Back to God We invite you to come forward as we circle around the table up front. Bread, wine, and money are collected and placed on the table as symbols of our lives and labours. If you are visiting with us today, you are our special guests, so please do not feel compelled to give financially. Refrain As we prepare to Live transformed lives, our communion meal reminds us of Jesus with us. Receiving bread, wine, or blessing are all valued ways of participating around Jesus' table. Baptized persons of any age are welcome to receive the bread and wine, and gluten-free wafers are available. If you wish to receive a blessing, please cross your arms over your chest. If you wish, the Deacon will bring communion to where you are seated. Prayer over the Gifts God of grace, People accept all we offer you this day, as we look toward the glory you have promised. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Eucharistic Prayer The Lord is here. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. He is worthy of our praise. Always and everywhere, it is right for us to praise you Lord, Holy Father, Mighty Creator and Eternal God. To you be glory and praise for ever. 7

Live We thank you, our heavenly Father, that in your love and mercy you gave your only Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross to save us. To you be glory and praise for ever. Jesus commanded us to remember his death until his coming again. Hear us, merciful Father, and grant that we, who eat and drink this bread and wine, may remember his death, and share in his body and blood. To you be glory and praise for ever. On the night he was betrayed, Jesus took the bread in his hands. He gave you thanks and broke it. Then he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, and eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way after the meal Jesus took the cup in his hands. He gave you thanks. Then he gave it to them saying, Drink from this, all of you. This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. To you be glory and praise for ever. May the power of your Holy Spirit so come upon this bread and wine that it would become for us the very presence of your Son Jesus. And may that same Spirit so come upon us that we would become your hands and feet in this hungry world. Blessing and honour and glory and power be yours for ever and ever. Amen. The Lord s Prayer Wyse 8
