Amen Liturgy of the Word FIRST READING Acts 1: 12-14 A reading from the Acts of the Apostles. Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day s journey away. When they had entered the city, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying, Peter, and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as his brothers. This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God Gospel Procession and Reading Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! The Lord be with you and also with you Hear the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew (6: 7-13). Glory to you, O Lord. When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one. This is the gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Talk Affirmation of Faith We believe in God the Father, From whom every family In heaven and on earth is named. We believe in God the Son, Who lives in our hearts through faith, And fills us with his love. We believe in God the Holy Spirit, Who strengthens us With power from on high. We believe in one God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 2
Intercessions This response may be used: We are your people and you are our God. At the end: Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ Peace God makes peace within us let us claim it. God makes peace between us - let us share it. Alleluia. The peace of the Lord be always with you. and also with you. Alleluia! Offertory hymn: During the hymn there will be a collection for the work of the church. Children are invited to gather around the altar during the hymn. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God And his righteousness And all these things shall be added unto you Allelu Alleluia. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, Alleluia, alleluia. Ask and it shall be given unto you Seek and ye shall find Knock and the door shall be opened unto you Allelu Alleluia Man shall not live by bread alone But by every word That proceeds from the mouth of God Allelu Alleluia By Karen Lafferty Eucharistic Prayer The Lord be with you and also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise. It is right to praise you, Father, Lord of all creation; in your love you made us for yourself. When we turned away you did not reject us, but came to meet us in your Son. You embraced us as your children and welcomed us to sit and eat with you. In Christ you shared our life that we might live in him and he in us. He opened his arms of love upon the cross and made for all the perfect sacrifice for sin. On the night he was betrayed, at supper with his friends he took bread, and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to them, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. 3
Father, we do this in remembrance of him: his body is the bread of life. At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine, he gave you thanks, and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins; do this in remembrance of me. Father, we do this in remembrance of him: his blood is shed for all. As we proclaim his death and celebrate his rising in glory, send your Holy Spirit that this bread and this wine may be to us the body and blood of your dear Son. As we eat and drink these holy gifts make us one in Christ, our risen Lord. With your whole Church throughout the world we offer you this sacrifice of praise and lift our voice to join the eternal song of heaven: sung: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen. We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread. Agnus Dei sung: Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us. Jesus, bearer of our sins, have mercy on us. Jesus, redeemer of the world, grant us peace. Hymn during Communion: There's a spirit in the air, Telling Christians everywhere: 'Praise the love that Christ revealed, Living, working, in our world!' Lose your shyness, find your tongue, Tell the world what God has done: God in Christ has come to stay. We can see his power today! When believers break the bread, When a hungry child is fed, Praise the love that Christ revealed, Living, working, in our world. When a stranger's not alone, Where the homeless find a home, Praise the love that Christ revealed, Living, working, in our world. May his Spirit fill our praise, Guide our thoughts and change our ways God in Christ has come to stay. We can see his power today! The priest gives the blessing, to which all respond Amen. Recessional hymn: Colours of day dawn into the mind The sun has come up, the night is behind Go down in the city, into the street And let's give the message to the people we meet So light up the fire and let the flame burn Open the door, let Jesus return Take seeds of His Spirit, let the fruit grow Tell the people of Jesus, let His love show Go through the park, on into the town The sun still shines on, it never goes down The light of the world is risen again The people of darkness are needing a friend 5
Open your eyes, look into the sky The darkness has come, the sun came to die The evening draws on, the sun disappears But Jesus is living, His Spirit is near By Sue McClellan (b.1951) John Paculabo (1946-2013) & Keith Ryecroft (b.1949) CCL 424001 dated 13.05.18 Sending out We turn to face the door of the church as we are sent out in God s name.
