MISSION STUDY UPDATE The Mission Study Team has designed a great survey to gauge the interests and needs of the congregation. Everyone who participates in the life of our church is encouraged to respond to this when it is available in a few weeks. We encourage you to fill this out online if you can, but paper versions will also be available. Please take the time to do this. Looking back 8 years ago, it looks like just 27 people filled out the survey we need better participation this time around. After the survey is compiled, we ll follow this up with some focus group type meetings to help the committee compile their report. Committee members are Ray Bradford, Fred Wickert, Jane Blackmon, Amy Bates, Michael Longhurst, Dennis Joyner and Jamie Kappes. Tithes and Offering Music Offering ; Breathe rning Prayers Words and Music by Marie Barnett, Arranged by Dave Williamson *Offering Response Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen Scripture: Genesis 32:22-32 Sermon: The Persistence of God: Grace that Wrestles Us Rev. Amo *Affirmation of Faith: (From Confession of 1967) We acknowledge that God s sovereign love is a mystery beyond the reach of human minds. We ascribe to God superlatives of power, wisdom, and goodness. But in Jesus Christ God reveals love by showing power in the form of a servant, wisdom in the folly of the cross, and goodness in receiving sinful people. The power of God s love in Christ transforms the world and discloses that the Redeemer is the Lord and Creator who made all things to serve the purpose of his love. We believe that God has created us for personal relationship in which we may respond to the love of the Creator. The Holy Spirit creates and renews the church as the community in which we are reconciled to God and to one another. We believe that in spite of our sin, the Holy Spirit gives us power to become representatives of Jesus Christ and to proclaim the good news of reconciliation to all. *Song of the Day: Amazing Grace How Sweet The Sound #280 Presbyterian Hymnal OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE PLEASE JOIN US IN PRAYER FOR: Our Session and Our LPC Family, Our Government Leaders, LPC Prayer Shawl Ministry, Our Youth, LPC Choir, Ministry Focus of LPC, Our Military. WE REJOICE THAT YOU ARE WORSHIPING WITH US If you are a member of this church, please seek out those who are visiting and welcome them to this family of faith. If you are visiting and would like to know more about the church and membership here, please speak to the minister. MUSIC NOTES We ll continue some music fun this week. One of the choir s favorite songs is a great version of Trading My Sorrows. We ve sung it at least once a year for 10 years or more. It was also a VBS song for several years including in 2006 with the theme Fiesta. So, today, we invite everyone to sing along with it as the Praise Song. It gets a bit hard to follow the parts and it has the men and women singing different songs at the same time but we think you will catch on just follow the choir if you get lost. During the offering, the choir will share an older song made famous by Michael W. Smith, Breathe. If you know the words, you can sing along to this as well. The Song of the Day is John Newton s famous hymn, Amazing Grace. Let s make a joyful noise together today! WELCOME EVAN AMO WELCOME Rev. Evan Amo and Lauren. Today we officially welcome Evan and Lauren in proper LPC fashion with a covered dish lunch. Please stay and enjoy a meal together.
