Let me at Thy throne of mercy Find a sweet relief; Kneeling there in deep contrition, Help my unbelief. Hymn #569 - Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour! Trusting only in Thy merit, Would I seek Thy face; Heal my wounded, broken spirit, Save me by Thy grace. Thou the spring of all my comfort, More than life to me, Whom have I on earth beside Thee, Whom in Heav n but Thee. Refrain: Savior, Savior, Hear my humble cry, while on others Thou art calling, Do not pass me by. Refrain: Savior, Savior, Hear my humble cry, While on others Thou art calling, Do not pass me by. Opening Prayer requesting one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer Lesson #147: The Sermon on the Mount Matthew 5:1 (KJV) And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: This week boys and girls, we will begin a new chapter in our lesson entitle, The Sermon on the Mount of our study book Desire of Ages! Mark 3:8 (KJV) And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and [from] beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him. Luke 6:17(KJV) And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; Luke 6:18 (KJV) And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. Luke 6:19 (KJV) And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed [them] all. Isaiah 60:1 (KJV) Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. Isaiah 60:2 (KJV) For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. Isaiah 60:3 (KJV) And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#147 (10.3.15) Page 1

Let s continue in our book Desire of Ages, Chapter #31, pages 298 299 Christ seldom gathered His disciples alone to receive His words. He did not choose for His audience those only who knew the way of life. It was His work to reach the multitudes who were in ignorance and error. He gave His lessons of truth where they could reach the darkened understanding. He Himself was the Truth, standing with girded loins and hands ever outstretched to bless, and in words of warning, entreaty, and encouragement, seeking to uplift all who would come unto Him. {DA 298.1} Question: What was the work of Christ? And who was the truth? Answer: It was His work to reach the multitudes who were in ignorance and error. And, He Himself was the Truth, standing with girded loins and hands ever outstretched to bless, and in words of warning, entreaty, and encouragement, seeking to uplift all who would come unto Him. The Sermon on the Mount, though given especially to the disciples, was spoken in the hearing of the multitude. After the ordination of the apostles, Jesus went with them to the seaside. Here in the early morning the people had begun to assemble. Besides the usual crowds from the Galilean towns, there were people from Judea, and even from Jerusalem itself; from Perea, from Decapolis, from Idumea, away to the south of Judea; and from Tyre and Sidon, the Phoenician cities on the shore of the Mediterranean. "When they had heard what great things He did," they "came to hear Him, and to be healed of their diseases:... there went virtue out of Him, and healed them all." Mark 3:8; Luke 6:17-19. {DA 298.2} Question: Beside the disciples, who also heard the Sermon on the Mount? And, what did go out of Jesus? Answer: There went virtue out of Him, and healed them all. And, The Sermon on the Mount, though given especially to the disciples, was spoken in the hearing of the multitude. The narrow beach did not afford even standing room within reach of His voice for all who desired to hear Him, and Jesus led the way back to the mountainside. Reaching a level space that offered a pleasant gathering place for the vast assembly, He seated Himself on the grass, and the disciples and the multitude followed His example. {DA 298.3} The disciples' place was always next to Jesus. The people constantly pressed upon Him, yet the disciples understood that they were not to be crowded away from His presence. They sat close beside Him, that they might not lose a word of His instruction. They were attentive listeners, eager to understand the truths they were to make known to all lands and all ages. {DA 299.1} Question: Where was Jesus seated? And, where did the disciple sit? Answer: He seated Himself on the grass, and the disciples and the multitude followed His example. They sat close beside Him, that they might not lose a word of His instruction. They were attentive listeners, eager to understand the truths they were to make known to all lands and all ages. Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#147 (10.3.15) Page 2

Song: Let s learn a beautiful scripture song together dear ones, from the book of Proverbs! Proverbs 3:1-7 (KJV) My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (2 xs) Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Proverbs 3 1 through 7 With a feeling that something more than usual might be expected, they now pressed about their Master. They believed that the kingdom was soon to be established, and from the events of the morning they gathered assurance that some announcement concerning it was about to be made. A feeling of expectancy pervaded the multitude also, and eager faces gave evidence of the deep interest. As the people sat upon the green hillside, awaiting the words of the divine Teacher, their hearts were filled with thoughts of future glory. There were scribes and Pharisees who looked forward to the day when they should have dominion over the hated Romans, and possess the riches and splendor of the world's great empire. The poor peasants and fishermen hoped to hear the assurance that their wretched hovels, the scanty food, the life of toil, and fear of want were to be exchanged for mansions of plenty and days of ease. In place of the one coarse garment which was their covering by day, and their blanket at night, they hoped that Christ would give them the rich and costly robes of their conquerors. All hearts thrilled with the proud hope that Israel was soon to be honored before the nations as the chosen of the Lord, and Jerusalem exalted as the head of a universal kingdom. {DA 299.2} Question: What did the people believe at the time Jesus was among them? And, what kind of feelings did the multitude have? Answer: They believed that the kingdom was soon to be established, and from the events of the morning they gathered assurance that some announcement concerning it was about to be made. And, a feeling of expectancy pervaded the multitude also, and eager faces gave evidence of the deep interest. Question: What future glory did the scribes and Pharisees look forward to? And, what words did the poor peasants and fishermen hope to hear from the words of the divine Teacher? Answer: They were for the day when they should have dominion over the hated Romans, and possess the riches and splendor of the world's great empire. And, hoped to hear the assurance that their wretched hovels, the scanty food, the life of toil, and fear of want were to be exchanged for mansions of plenty and days of ease. Song: Let s learn another scripture song together dear ones, from the book of Proverbs! Proverbs 11:24-25 (KJV) There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and [there is] that withholdeth more than is meet, but [it tendeth] to poverty. The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. Proverbs chapter 11: 24 and 25 he that watereth shall be watered also himself. Christ disappointed the hope of worldly greatness. In the Sermon on the Mount He sought to undo the work that had been wrought by false education, and to give His hearers a right conception of His kingdom and of His own character. Yet He did not make a direct attack on the errors of the people. He saw the misery of the world on account of sin, yet He did not present before them a vivid delineation of their wretchedness. He taught them of something infinitely better than they had known. Without combating their ideas of the kingdom of God, He told them the conditions of entrance therein, leaving them to draw their own conclusions as to its nature. The truths He taught are no less important to us than to the multitude that followed Him. We no less than they need to learn the foundation principles of the kingdom of God. {DA 299.3} Question: In what way did Christ disappoint the hearers as He spoke to the multitude in the Sermon on the Mount? And, did He make a direct attack on the errors of the people? Answer: The hope of worldly greatness; He sought to undo the work that had been wrought by false education, and to give His hearers a right conception of His kingdom and of His own character. And, No! He taught them of something infinitely better than they had known. He told them the conditions of entrance therein, leaving them to draw their own conclusions as to its nature. Song: Let s learn a beautiful scripture song, together dear ones, from the book of Matthew! Matthew 6:33 (KJV) and Song: All Good Things Will Be Added Unto You! But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Allelu, Hallelujah! Song: If you'll just trust and never doubt what He said, and all these things shall be added unto you. Seek ye first the kingdom of His love, Make Him first in everything you do. If you'll just trust and never doubt what He said, All good things will be added unto you. He's got everything you need. All He asks is that you heed, and be faithful till the very end. When that judgement day has come, don't you want to be the one? Just to see his face and call him friend. Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#147 (10.3.15) Page 4

Gather the little ones together! It s Story Time! Our book selection this Sabbath is entitle, Sons and Daughters of God Chapter 2-We Shall Not Steal Narrated by our dear Brother Graves! Thou shalt not steal. Exodus 20:15. {SD 63.1} Both public and private sins are included in this prohibition. The eighth commandment condemns man-stealing and slave-dealing, and forbids wars of conquest. It condemns theft and robbery. It demands strict integrity in the minutest details of the affairs of life. It forbids overreaching in trade, and requires the payment of just debts or wages. It declares that every attempt to advantage one's self by the ignorance, weakness, or misfortune of another, is registered as fraud in the books of heaven. {SD 63.2} The eighth commandment is to barricade the soul, and hedge man in, so that he shall make no injurious encroachment--which his self-love and desire for gain would make on his neighbor's rights. It forbids every species of dishonesty, injustice, or fraud, however prevalent, however palliated by plausible pretenses. {SD 63.3} "Thou shalt not steal" was written by the finger of God upon the tables of stone, yet how much underhand stealing of affections is practiced and excused. A deceptive courtship is maintained, private communications are kept up, until the affections of one who is inexperienced and knows not whereunto these things may grow, are in a measure withdrawn from her parents and placed upon him who shows by the very course he pursues that he is unworthy of her love. The Bible condemns every species of dishonesty. {SD 63.4} To trifle with hearts is a crime of no small magnitude in the sight of a holy God. {SD 63.5} As we deal with our fellow men in petty dishonesty or in more daring fraud, so will we deal with God. Men who persist in a course of dishonesty will carry out their principles until they cheat their own souls and lose heaven and eternal life. {SD 63.6} So long as heaven and earth continue, the holy principles of God's law will... continue, a source of blessing, sending forth streams to refresh the earth. {SD 63.7} Next Week We will continue with Part 2 in our lesson entitle, The Sermon on the Mount of our book Desire of Ages Closing Prayer request one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer.
