THE COUNCIL OF RELIGIOUS LEADERS CONDEMNS JESUS Matthew 27 1 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people to against Jesus to put him to death: (Plotted against Him.) (The Bible tells us 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. Psalms 2:2-3) 2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. (By now it became a legal council; why because they wanted Rome to carry the sentence plus God was orchestrating the event.) (The Bible tells us 19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again. Matthew 20:19) JUDAS KILLS HIMSELF 3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, (Judas did not want it to go this far-was coming back to his senses but did not go to Christ and repent but repented before men.) (The Bible tells us 5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment? Job 20:5)(The Bible tells us 14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, 15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. Matthew 26:14-15) (The Bible tells us 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 2 Corinthians 7:10) 4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. (Judas recognized his sin and acknowledges it.) 5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. (Against the Law of God-now is responsible for two murders.) (The Bible tells us 18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. Acts 1:18) 6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. (Recognized what this is all about; would defile the Temple being innocent blood and yet didn t do anything about it; there are certain actions that cannot be reversed.)

7 And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. 8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day. 9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; (The Bible tells us 18 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. 3 Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? Behold as the clay is in the Potter s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. Jeremiah 18:1-6) (The parables in these chapters, written during the early years of Jehoiakim s reign, illustrate God s sovereignty over the nation. God has power over clay (Judah), and he continues to work with it to make it a useful vessel. But Judah must soon repent or the clay will harden the wrong way. Then it will be worth nothing, and it will be broken and destroyed.) (God was directing all the event so we can t hold them totally responsible. He also blinded them. We are all guilty including God and Jesus and we must be to receive salvation through the crucifixion.) 10 And he gave them the potter s field, as the Lord appointed me. JESUS STANDS BEFORE PITLATE 11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. (The Bible tells us 13 I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth (gives life to) all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; 14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable (blameless) until the appearing our Lord Jesus Christ: I Timothy 6:13-14) 12 And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing (Didn t choose to argue with them; his own people.) (The Bible tells us 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. Isaiah 53:7) (The Bible tells us 63 But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. Matthew 26:63) (The Bible tells us 19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. John 19:19) (The Bible tells us 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: I Peter

2:22) (We should not deny our part in the crucifixion or we won t have salvation because of our sins.) 13 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? 14 And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly. PILOT HANDS JESUS OVER TO BE CRUCIFIED 15 Now at that feast (OF PASSOVER) the governor as wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would. 16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. (Son of the Father) ironic kinsmen an Israelites.) 17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ (which is called the anointed.) 18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him. 19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. (Another witness to the Gentiles don t kill your Savior.) (The Bible tells us 14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; Job 33:14-15) 20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. (The Bible tells us 14 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; Acts 3:14) (Same as years later and put poison in the mind and heart to destroy the Jew; here the truth today. Instead of preaching peace and love; this is how Satan destroys and God allows it; beastiel mind of an animal.) 21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas. 22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. (The Bible tells us 16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. Matthew 1:16) 23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. (The Bible tells us 5 And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister unto him (not anyone else) in the name of the Lord; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried: 6 And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley (brook): 7 And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. 8 Be merciful, O LORD, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel's charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them. 9 So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD. (A lot of symbolism in this ceremony; entire congregation responsible for it; so have to atone.) 25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children (Foolish cannot pronounce a guilty sentence on the innocent children and in contrary to the Law of God.) (The Bible tells us 10 That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee. Deuteronomy 19:10) (The Bible tells us 28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us. Acts 5:28) 26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. (The Bible tells us 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5) (He admitted Jesus was innocent and still kills Him. What kind of judge would do this to an innocent man; insane lawless mind.) ROMAN SOLDIERS MOCK JESUS 27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. 28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe (An innocent man.) (The Bible tells us 11 And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate. Luke 23:11) (The Bible tells us Thou has known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee. Reproach as broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none: for comforters, but I found none.)

29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! (The Bible tells us 19 Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee. 20 Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. Psalm 69:19-20) (Shows contempt for the Jews-guilty and innocent and all against the Roman law.) (The Bible tells us 10 They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face. Job 30:10) (The Bible tells us 6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting. Isaiah 50:6) 30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. 31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. (The Bible tells us 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. Isaiah 53:8) JESUS IS LED AWAY TO BE CRUCIFIED 32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross. (The Bible tells us 21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross. 22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull. 23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not. 4 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take. 25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him (9 A. M.) And the superscription of his was written of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS. (MARK ONLY SAID THE KING OF THE JEWS, RECORDED MANY TIMES.) And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left. 28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors. 29 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, 30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross. 31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save. 32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him (All the signs and wonders they had witnessed before and would not have believed now.) Mark 15:21-32) (The Bible tells us 17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in

the Hebrew Golgotha: 18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. 19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. 20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin (In other words He had heard it all.) 21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. 22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written. 23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. 24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did. John 19:17-24) 33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, (The Bible tells us 26 And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus. Luke 23:26) 34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. (Sour wine mixed with gaul to give a longer punishment.) 35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. 36 And sitting down they watched him there; (Can you imagine they sat there and watched to the end. Misery, pain, beastial.) 37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left. (The Bible tells us 12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Isaiah 53:12) 39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, (The Bible tells us 7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, 8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. Psalm 22:7-8)

40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. (The Bible tells us 61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. Matthew 26:61) (The Bible tells us 19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. John 2:19) 41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, 42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. (Why would they believe Him now?) 43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. (Now they are mocking God.) 44 The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth. (The Bible tells us 45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias (Elijah). 48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. 49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias (Elijah) will come to save him. 50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost (breathed His last breath). 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; Matthew 27:45-51) JESUS DIES ON THE CROSS 45 Now from the sixth (3 P. M.) hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. (The Bible tells us 3 I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering. 4 The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned. Isaiah 50:3-4) (The Bible tells us 9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day: (Great calamity when dark at noon.) Amos 8:9) (The Bible tells us 33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness (Our Wed.) over the whole land until the ninth hour. (Spiritual meaning-darkness was descending because light was taken away.) 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 35 And some

of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias. 36 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias (Elijah) will come to take him down (Doesn t mean go to heaven.). 37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost (breath). 38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. 39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. 40 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; 41 (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem (Doesn t mention the disciples there.). Mark 15:33-41) 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (The Bible tells us 44 And it was about the sixth hour (noon), and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour (3 P. M.) 45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. 46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Luke 23:44-46) 47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias (Elijah). 48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. (The Bible tells us 29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar (sour wine), and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost (breathed His last breath). John 19:29-30) 49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. 50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost (Breathed, expired-the end penalty was paid.). 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; (The Bible tells us 31 And thou shalt make a vail of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen of cunning work: with cherubims shall it be made: 32 And thou shalt hang it upon four pillars of shittim wood overlaid with gold: their hooks shall be of gold, upon the four sockets of silver. 33 And thou shalt hang up the vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail the ark of the testimony: and the vail shall divide unto you between the holy

place and the most holy. Exodus 26:31-33) (The Bible tells us 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; Hebrews 10:19-20) 52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. (Not before or at the same time because He was the 1 st born of many brethren.) 54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. (The Bible tells us 18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. 19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. 20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. Exodus 20:18-20) 55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him: 56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children. (The Bible tells us 2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits (demons) and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils (demons), Luke 8:2) JESUS IS LAID IN THE TOMB 57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: (The Bible tells us 42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath (Sabbaton; plural), 43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus (He knew people that are crucified takes days; Pilot was amazed.). 44 And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. 45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. 46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre. 47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid. Mark 15:42-47)

58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. 59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. (The Bible tells us 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Isaiah 53:9) 61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre. Thursday morning.), (The Bible tells us 2 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision. 5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. 6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. 7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Psalms 2:1-7) 63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. (The Bible tells us 31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. Mark 8:31) (The Bible tells us 23 And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry. Matthew 17:23) (The Bible tells us 19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again. Matthew 20:19) (The Bible tells us 34 And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again. Mark 10:34) (The Bible tells us 22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. Luke 9:22) (The Bible tells us 33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. Bible tells us 8 By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; 2 Corinthians 6:8) 64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made (secure) sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. 65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a (guard) watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. 66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch. (The Bible tells us 17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel. Daniel 6:17) MEMORY VERSE I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Psalm 2:7 SABBATH LESSON FOR TOTS
