FESTIVAL SONGS 2015 WOULDN T IT BE LOVERLY A Spoonful of Sugar p14 In every job that must be done, There is an element of fun. You find the fun and snap! The job s a game. And every task you undertake, Becomes a piece of cake. A lark! A spree! It s very clear to see. That a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. The medicine go down, medicine go down. Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. In the most delightful way. A robin feathering his nest Has very little time to rest. While gathering his bits of twine and twig. Though quite intent in his pursuit, He has a merry tune to toot. He knows a song Will move the job along. For a spoonful of sugar. The honey bees that fetch the nectar From the flowers to the comb, Never tire of ever buzzing to and fro. Because they take a little nip, From every flower that they sip. And hence, they find Their task is not a grind. For a spoonful of sugar. Colder now p28 It s getting colder now, the darkness falling. No time to sit around, the world is calling. It s a long, long way I know but however far I go I ll some day find my way back home. I had a family only this morning, Strange how things fall apart without warning. I suppose you never know when the winds of change will blow To break you and take you from home. I ve heard all the stories they tell Of countries beyond the horizon And mountains that reach to the sky, They never tell you if you ll ever find one. There s nothing more to say, No time for crying. So thanks for having me, I must be flying. Though this is so hard to bear As I stand here now I swear I ll some day find my way back home. Curiouser p32 Things are curiouser and curiouser And curiouser and curiouser And curiouser. I ve begun to wonder if I ll ever understand, Whether I m in Wonderland Or if I m only dreaming. I could grow down like a candle, Till I was small as small can be. Go out, blow out like a candle, Then what would become of me? Curiouser and curiouser And curiouser and curiouser And curiouser. I ve begun to wonder if I ll ever understand, Whether I m in Wonderland Or am I only dreaming?

I want to be happy p37 I m a very ordinary man, Trying to work out life s happy plan. Doing unto others as I d like to have them Doing unto me. When I find a very lonely soul, To be kind becomes my only goal, I feel so much better when I tell them My philosophy. I want to be happy, But I won t be happy Till I make you happy, too; Life s really worth living, When we are mirth giving, Why can t I give some to you? When skies are grey and you Say you are blue, I ll send the sun smiling through. I want to be happy, But I won t be happy, Till I make you happy too. (repeat chorus) It s a lovely day today p 42 It s a lovely day today, So whatever you ve got to do, You ve got a lovely day to do it in, That s true. And I hope whatever you ve got to do Is something that can be done by two, For I d really like to stay. It s a lovely day today, And whatever you ve got to do, I d be so happy to be doing it with you. But if you ve got something that must be done, And it can only be done by one, There is nothing more to say. Except it s a lovely day for saying It s a lovely day. (repeat whole song) Mr Mistoffelees p 46 The greatest magicians have something to learn From Mister Mistoffelees s Conjuring Turn. Presto! And we all say: He is quiet, he is small, he is black, from his ears to the tip of his tail; He can creep through the tiniest crack, He can walk on the narrowest rail. He can pick any card from a pack, He is equally cunning with dice; He is always deceiving you into believing That he s only hunting for mice. He can play any trick with a cork, Or a spoon and a bit of fish paste: If you look for a knife or a fork, And you think it is merely misplaced You have seen it one moment, And then it is gawn! But you ll find it next week Lying out on the lawn. And we all say: His manner is vague and aloof, You would think there was nobody shyer, But his voice has been heard on the roof, When he was curled up by the fire, And he s sometimes been heard by the fire, When he was about on the roof. (At least we all heard that somebody purred.) Which is incontestable proof. Of his singular magical powers: And I ve known the family to call Him in from the garden for hours, While he was asleep in the hall. And not long ago this phenomenal cat Produced seven kittens right out of a hat! And we all said:

No one knows who I am p51 Look at me and tell me who I am, Why I am, what I am. Call me a fool and it s true, I am: I don t know who I am. It s such a shame, I m such a sham. No one knows who I am. Once there were sweet possibilities I could see, just for me. Now all my dreams are just memories, Fated never to be. Time s not a friend hurrying by, I wonder who am I? Am I the face of the future? Am I the face of the past? Am I the one who must finish last? Look at me and tell me who I am, Why I am, what I am, Will I survive, who will give a damn, If no one knows who I am. Nobody knows, not even you. No one knows who I am. The girl I mean to be - p 62 I need a place where I can go, Where I can whisper what I know, Where I can whisper who I like And where I go to see them. I need a place where I can hide, Where no one sees my life inside, Where I can make my plans and write them down, So I can read them. We re off to see the Wizard p 74 We re off to see the Wizard, The wonderful Wizard of Oz, We hear he is a whiz if a wiz If ever a wiz there was. If ever, oh, ever a wiz there was, The Wizard of Oz is one because, Because, because, because, because Because Because of the wonderful things he does. We re off to see the Wizard, The wonderful Wizard of Oz. (repeat whole song) Who will buy? p77 Who will buy this wonderful morning? Such a sky you never did see. Who will tie it up with a ribbon, And put it in a box for me? There ll never be a day so sunny, It could not happen twice. Where is the man with all the money? It s cheap at half the price! Who will buy this wonderful feeling? I m so high, I swear I could fly. Me, oh my, I don t want to lose it, So what am I to do, To keep the sky so blue? There must be someone who will buy. (repeat song) A place where I can bid my heart be still, And it will mind me. A place where I can go when I am lost, And there I ll find me. I need a place to spend the day, Where no one says to go or stay, Where I can take my pen and draw the girl I mean to be.

Wouldn t it be loverly? p82 All I want is a room somewhere, Far away from the cold night air, With one enormous chair, Oh, wouldn t it be loverly! Lots of choc late for me to eat; Lots of coal making lots of heat; Warm face, warm hands, warm feet, Oh, wouldn t it be loverly? Oh, so loverly sittin abso-bloomin-lutely still! I would never budge til Spring Crept over my window sill. Someone s head restin on my knee: Warm and tender as he can be; Who take good care of me, Oh, wouldn t it be loverly? Loverly? Loverly! Loverly! Loverly! (repeat whole song) (Whistle) Oh, wouldn t it be loverly? Loverly! Loverly! Loverly! Wouldn t it be loverly?

Danny Boy p 44 SONGS YOU THINK YOU KNOW Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling From glen to glen, and down the mountain side; The summer s gone and all the roses fading, Tis you, tis you must go and I must bide. But come ye back when summer s in the meadow Or when the valley s hushed and white with snow, For I ll be here, in sunshine or in shadow O Danny boy, O Danny boy I love you so. Land of Hope and Glory p94 Land of hope and glory, mother of the free, How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee? Wider still and wider shall thy bounds be set; God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet, God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet. Loch Lomond p 102 By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes, Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond, Where me and my true love were ever wont to gae, On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Oh, ye ll take the high road and I ll take the low road, And I ll be in Scotland afore ye, But me and my true love will never meet again, On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Rule Britannia - p140 When Britain first at Heaven s command Arose from out the azure main, Arose, arose, arose from out the azure main. This was the charter, the charter of the land, And guardian angels sang this strain: Rule, Britannia, Britannia rules the waves; Britons never, never, never shall be slaves (repeat) We ll keep a Welcome p 188 We ll keep a welcome in the hillsides, We ll keep a welcome in the glen, This land you knew will still be singing When you come home, sweet home, again; There ll be a friendly light to guide you, For your return we ll always pray; We ll kiss away each hour of longing When you come home again to Wales.
