Ramadan at Aspen Heights British School Dear families, Ramadan Kareem. We expect that the first day of the holy month of Ramadan will be Thursday 17th May 2018. During Ramadan: Timings and practicalities: - The school day will start at 8.30am and end at 1.30. Children can come into their classrooms from 8.15. All families are asked to collect their children at 1.30pm. - Please let your child s class teacher, or our PA Sandy pa@ahbs.ae; know if your child will be fasting. We will ensure there is a designated place for them to go and rest during break-times. - Physical Education and Music lessons will continue throughout Ramadan. Children who are fasting will not be expected to take part in physical PE lessons; instead there will be research activities for them to take part in. - Staff who are not fasting will not eat or drink in front of fasting colleagues or students, and we will dress particularly conservatively. Giving in the Year of Zayed: We are coordinating 4 initiatives with Friends of Aspen to help those less fortunate in the lead up, and during the holy month: 1. Ramadan Bazaar- please send in donations of previously loved toys, books, blankets, children s and adult s clothes- in association with Café 1868 these will be distributed for those who need in the community. 2. Toiletries for workers please bring in donations of: toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, deodorant, hairbrushes, face towels, socks etc. to AHBS reception. 3. Iftar craft workshop - Family workshop to paint glass jars for decoration in preparation for the community iftar. Please bring a clean, recycled glass jar on Tuesday 15th May at 2.30pm. 4. Non-uniform day: Please bring in a voluntary donation of 10aed on Thursday 31st May to wear your own clothes. Iftar Iftar is a traditional meal to break the fast. We invite all families from all faiths to join us for an iftar on Wednesday 23rd May at sunset (exact time to be advised). This will be an informal event to which we invite families to bring a dish to share. If you would like to come along please return the slip below to Ms Sandy by Monday 21st May. Prayer facilities will be available at the appropriate times. Aspen Heights British school is looking forward to sharing this important time of year with you all.
