JULY 1, 2017 I WONDER WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT? WE WORSHIP PAGE 6 WE WORSHIP 2 PAGE 9

WHO WE ARE WELCOME to Pioneer Good morning and welcome! We are so glad you have joined us on this beautiful Sabbath day. We begin our summer worship series, "I Wonder What the Bible Says About?" with Pastor Rodlie Ortiz. As Pioneer members and guests are aware, this series is based on questions they asked and from which the top five subjects were chosen. Each sermon will unveil one of these five subjects. May we all be blessed as we join in worshipping our Creator and God and celebrating this special day with Him; and with each other, as we sing praises, bring our tithes and offerings, and join our hearts in prayer. Happy Sabbath! YOUTH MINISTRY The Need for Discipleship 4 PIONEER MEMORIAL CHURCH

PIONEER LIFE BY BEN MARTIN Y outh ministry is an ever-changing landscape; with each year the youth change: some graduate and others arrive. The demographics are not the only factor of working with youth that has changed over the years. When I speak with older members about their experience growing up in the church and compare it to what was done in youth ministry when I was younger, there is no question things have changed. It seems as though reaching the youth is still something that we have not fully figured out and so we continually change our approach in order to better connect our youth to Christ. There are many models available for reaching the young. However, with so many of the young leaving the church we cannot sit idly by trying new models. When Jesus came to Earth He employed a method for reaching the world that at first seems counterintuitive. We talk a lot about discipleship, but have you ever paused to think about the fact that the God of the Universe in His infinite wisdom chose twelve untrained men to reach the whole world? He trained them, not through classes, but through a relationship; and this is the process of discipleship. Pioneer Memorial Church has committed to a discipleship model of ministry. In order to build relationships that lead to life transformations and equipping for ministry we have embraced GROW Groups. Youth Ministries here at PMC has also embraced this model of ministry. There are over a thousand youth between the ages of birth and eighteen here at PMC. With this many children it becomes difficult to connect with each one in a meaningful relationship. In order to truly disciple the young we must all work together. This is why we say, "it takes a village to raise a child." So how are we following a discipleship model here at PMC Youth Ministries? Well in short we are working on this in every place that we can, but one clear example is the way we are running our Pathfinder club. The Evergreen club is one of the oldest Pathfinder clubs in the world with a rich history of discipleship. As the club has grown over the years it becomes increasingly difficult to develop relationships with the young that equip them for ministry and an eternal relationship with their Savior. This year we have implemented some changes that bring the Evergreen Pathfinder Club back to the original intent of Pathfinders and to the heart of what we are trying to do here at Pioneer Memorial Church. We have taken the club and used the GROW Group template to rethink how we can better disciple the young. The club now consists of smaller squads. Although this has only been in place for one year I have heard multiple staff and students tell me that this year they were able to form deeper relationships than they had been able to in the past. So as we continue to refine and work on what we are doing with Youth Ministry here at PMC it will continually be our goal to better disciple the young so that through our relationships with each of them, they can have relationships with Him. Ben Martin is the pastor of Youth Ministries here at PMC. SUPPORT THIS MINISTRY Please indicate "PMC Operating Expense" on your tithe envelope. JULY 1, 2017 5

Bradbury was born in Maine, and lived on a farm in his early life. While in his teens, Bradbury already was a person of repute as an organist. Some time later, he received a call to be in charge of music at First Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York, then to lead music with choir and organ at Baptist Tabernacle in the city. In time, his church-based "Juvenile Musical Festivals" attracted approximately 1,000 children. Today's Worship in Music is played by Dr. Wen-Ting Ong, who lived many formative years in this community. Her rhapsodic, lyric, passionate music is from a sonata by Russian-American composer Rachmaninov (1873-1943). JULY 1, 2017 7
