Introduction Election is on Annual Meeting Sunday, June 8, 2014 Welcome to the First Church Election Publication, produced by the First Church Nominating Committee. This document provides pictures and biographies of the candidates for Church offices. Please review the contents to get to know the Church Members who would like to lead First Church for the 2014 to 2015 Church Year. Members of the Church will choose from these candidates for next year s leaders at the election at the Annual Meeting on Sunday, June 8. Vice-President Description: The Vice-President is a Church Board Trustee who assumes the additional duties of the Church Vice-President. The Vice-President is Presidentelect and succeeds to the Presidency at the Annual Membership Meeting the following year. After serving as President, this Trustee serves one additional year on the Church Board as Immediate Past President. Claudia Lizett Lopez Claudia was born and raised in Orange County and eventually made her way to San Diego after meeting her husband, Addison. They first came to FUUCSD years ago when they were politically active and came to hear speakers that were hosted by the Church. Claudia and Addison moved away to the Bay Area and since moving back with their daughter, they found their way back to the Church during their search for a place to build community with people who were walking a similar path. Claudia has been involved with the Young Adult Group, Children s Religious Education, the Earth Centered Spiritual Circle, and recently completed her first year on the Board of Trustees. She has attended the Multicultural Leadership School at the UUA and the Mosaic Makers Conference in Tulsa. She is currently doing Project Management work in the Banking Industry in which she has been employed for the last 8 years. Claudia is honored to be nominated.
Treasurer Description: The Treasurer is a Church Board Trustee who assumes the additional duties of the Church Treasurer. The Treasurer may not serve more than three consecutive one-year terms. Louise Klinke Louise Klinke moved here from the Chicago suburbs in 2000 and started attending First Church in 2001. She started getting connected by joining the North County Neighborhood Group and made some wonderful friends. Since then Louise has been a member and treasurer of the UU Women, an usher, a volunteer for the Rummage Sale (counting money of course!), and has worked on the Generosity Ministry Team Committee as a co-leader and as one of the friendly representatives during pledge season. Professionally, although she just received her Accounting Degree from SDSU last year, she have worked in many different accounting and finance roles for more than 30 years.
Trustees Description: The Job of the Church Board is to represent and lead the congregation in the management of Church affairs and administration of the Church policy. The responsibilities of the Church Board are provided under the Church Constitution. Marcia Biller Marcia has been part of the First UU Church community since 1983, and as a Member since 1986. Marcia is now completing 31 years as a choir member. She has also been a member of the Lay Ministry team since it began approximately ten years ago. She is proud to say she was part of the Search Committee that brought Reverend Kathleen Owens to First UU Church. Additionally, she has participated in a neighborhood group, spiritual deepening groups and spiritual retreats. She hopes to contribute at an organizational level to the next few years which are going to be exciting and challenging.

The responsibilities of the Church Board are provided under the Church Constitution. John Keasler John Carlos Keasler grew up in a small farming community in northeast Texas. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and in Italy before getting his degree from North Texas State University. John permanently moved to San Diego in 1975. In 1978 he served as Co-Chair of the fledgling Gay Pride March. He was also Chairman of the San Diego Veterans Association, Dean of the Strength for the Journey retreat for persons with AIDS. John s professional life included retail sales, Realtor, Notary Public, and artist. John joined First UU Church in 2000 and was recognized as UU of the Year in 2008 for Service to the Church. He has been a co-facilitator of the UU Men s Fellowship, Rainbow Outreach, and the Bard Hall Art Guild.

The responsibilities of the Church Board are provided under the Church Constitution. Roy Whitaker Roy is a native of Los Angles but has spent the better part of his life in San Diego. He has traveled and worked in Jamaica, India, and Germany. Roy holds two Master s Degrees from Harvard University and Princeton Theological Seminary respectively. As a professor at San Diego State University, his areas of interest include pop culture and religion. In terms of our UU community, he serves on the Good Relations Committee. In terms of the larger UU community, he participated in the emerging UU scholars conference in Boston and he gives public talks at UU Churches in the San Diego area.

The responsibilities of the Church Board are provided under the Church Constitution. Carolyn woodbury A member since 1960, Carolyn has been active in Social Justice since she was a teen. Current church activities include playing Hand Bells, Friends of de Benneville Pines, UU Women, Dynamic Duos, South Bay Neighborhood Group and Co-Chairing the Sustainable Energy Team. In past, she has co-chaired the Denominational Affairs, Women Together and Service Auctions. She mounted our first Chalice Lighters campaign, helped at our Homeless Shelter, and represented our Church as a delegate to several General Assemblies. She and her husband, Peter, are Channing Society members and long time supporters of UU Legislative Ministry of California, UUSC, and UUA.
