John Mason Peck Marguerite Jenison Pease collected these materials, mostly photocopies and transcripts, as source material for a 1934 Dictionary of American Biography entry (credited to her husband) on John Mason Peck, an influential Illinois pioneer and a Baptist preacher, author, educator, and newspaper editor. 46. The journal, now held by the Southern Illinois University Library at Edwardsville, includes diary entries, travel expenses and other expenditures, lists of subscribers for Baptist publications, notes on land purchases and taxes, and references to Shurtleff College and other institutions with which Peck was associated. 48. Correspondents include the secretary of the Northern Baptist Education Society of Boston, the Massachusetts Missionary Society, David Benedict, S. S. Cutting, and George Haskell.

Correspondents include Warren Leverett and Washington Leverett, concerning the affairs of Shurtleff College, proposals for higher education in Illinois, and Baptist Church activities in Illinois. 50. Letters in The American Pioneer, 1842-43 (5 items; transcripts). These letters regard a history of Illinois and include an account of a Feb. 4, 1837, meeting at which Peck lectured. 51. Letters, Bethel Baptist Church, Rock Spring, Ill., 1851-52 (4 items; transcripts). These letters regard the affairs of Bethel Baptist Church, where Peck was pastor. Benson, 1943-62 (28) Evalyn Benson was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Charles Lee Benson, friends of the Pease family in Oak Park, Illinois. After the Bensons moved to Buenos Aires for business reasons, she corresponded with Theodore and Marguerite Pease. She married Thomas E.
