The Newsletter for the Congregation & Friends of Upper Chelsea January - March 2012 A New Year Pause for Thought New beginnings 'Every day is a gift from God, how we live it is our gift to him.' This thought I hope is particularly appropriate both for the New Year and for Easter - but as I suggest is a reflection for every day. Everyday we wake up ought to be regarded as a new beginning. Each day will have some flash of light even in a dark place - but you need to look for it and expect it. We ve begun a New Year celebrating the move from darkness to light and as the nights get shorter and the days get longer we celebrate the dawning of a new year. At the beginning of February we celebrate Candlemas when Jesus was presented to the Temple and was greeted by Simeon and Anna as they recognise him as a light to the Gentiles. With Inside this issue: Christ we invited to shine in the dark places. However her spirit lit up her room. As we talked and prayed together and shared Holy Communion, she affirmed her faith in Christ and said that her present experience had been an enriching one. She had received emails and cards sharing such love for her - her family rallied around her. Then she said something that will stay with me for a long time. She said ' they are loving me into life'. She died in

That for me should be our New Year s message. Let us let in the light of God's love. 'Every day is a gift from God, how we live it is our gift to him.' The Revd Rob Gillion Holy Trinity s Boy s Choir The first Sunday of Advent at Holy Trinity marked an historic moment in the life of the Parish with the re-introduction of a Boys' Choir into the choral life of the church. In an age where most parish choirs are collapsing around the country, it is wonderful to see further growth within our parish. The sights and sounds of these young voices surely brought a heavenly presence to Holy Trinity, it was for all a very special day. The boys and their parents appreciated the warm welcome they received and very much look forward to their next service. A MESSAGE FROM YOUR RECTOR From 1st November 2011 we have become a new parish: THE PARISH OF HOLY TRINITY AND ST SAVIOUR UPPER CHELSEA Holy Trinity remains the Parish Church, and St Saviour s becomes a Chapel of Ease, an additional place of worship. This provides a wonderful opportunity for shared ministry. This new partnership between the two churches will need to be our focus and mission in this new extended parish with a fresh team joining us from St Saviour s. So the next few months will see some important changes both in focus and in ministry and I pray that God will lead us onwards in Christ s name and that we can be a blessing and encouragement to one another. Pause for Thought The Revd Rob Gillion, Rector of Holy Trinity, is a regular contributor on Chris Evans Breakfast show on BBC Radio Two. He often gives the Pause for Thought on Monday mornings. Please do tune in on 88-91FM or online. With boys from Heath Mount School forming the backbone of the new choir, Holy Trinity is now looking to recruit boys from the locality. These boys (and eventually girls) aged approximately 7-14 will begin by singing once a month with the main choir and at key services throughout the year. As they become more familiar with a substantial choral repertoire they will begin to take on further choral responsibilities. Membership to the trebles is open to young people who possess a voice, are confident readers and have a responsive ear. Musical potential is what is sought. Entry to the choir is by a short informal audition. The choristers will receive a first class musical training as well as gain a sense of achievement from performances of some of the finest pieces of choral music and accompanied by (what will surely be) one of the countries finest organs. Should you wish to receive further information or would like to arrange an audition, please contact the church office. We are planning a party at St Saviour s on the evening of Saturday 18th February and on Sunday 19th February a Festal Eucharist at Holy Trinity; a weekend when we can all gather to give thanks to God for one another in Christ s name.

Why is it present in the world and within our own lives? Why do the innocent suffer and - too often - the powerful prevail? If there is a God and he is good, why is the world that he created constantly marred by conflict, war and natural disaster? Such huge questions, with which humanity has grappled since the very beginning, lie at the heart of Revelation, that mesmerising and often puzzling book of the Bible.
