MONDAY, MAY 28 Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America. Memorial Day was borne out of a desire to honor fallen service members, dating back to the Civil War. Since 1971, this national, civic holiday has been observed in nearly every state of the union on the last Monday of May. All are encouraged to observe Memorial Day and to honor the memory of those who gave their lives in service.
