Also a BIG THANKS to Miss Teah Brown and her super kitchen crew. Man did we eat well!! We had seven children making their profession of faith in Jesus Christ during VBS. What a great blessing it was to be a part of GAME ON!!! This Sunday, July 8th, we continue our walk through Amos in our A SUMMER WITH FAMOUS AMOS Sermon Series. Be faithful this summer as God s Word seeks to speak to your heart. See you for Pancake Breakfast at 8:45 a.m., Sunday School Bible Study at 9:15 a.m. and Worship at 10:30 a.m. Sunday!! Volume 7 Edition 7 July 2018 Page 3 But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. 1 Timothy 6:9 (NLT) H ave every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. (Philippians 4:11-12 NIV). you ever known someone who was trapped by many foolish and harmful desires? For me that person looks back from the mirror each morning. And every day I have to give control back to God, otherwise I ll let the foolish and harmful desires run me all day long. Most Christians today go through life praying a little, attending church on occasion, serving in their own strength, and hoping for the best. They are religious - maybe even spiritual - but are not really living life God s way and with His power. Our power is so very, very limited, but with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). We miss contentment if something other than food, clothing, and shelter becomes essential to our physical lives. Charles R. Swindoll J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) In Vacation Bible School, our kids studied the disciples Thomas (yes, the doubting one), John, and Peter, and stories about the lost sheep and Lazarus being raised from the dead. The songs we sing and the stories and Biblical figures help to illustrate the messages we are trying to share with our children. Themes like Jesus loves even me, and through Him we can have hope, life, and joy. All week we focused on the theme verse, 2 Peter 1:3, which reminds us that, His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness (CSB). Our lives are not defined by what we own because He has given us everything we need for life. The Apostle Paul echoed Peter s words when he wrote to the Church of believers at Philippi, I h a v e l e a r n e d t o b e c o n t e n t w h a t e v e r t h e circumstances. I have learned the secret of being content in any and The world we live in today wants us to believe that we need stuff to be happy. Paul s letter to Timothy says that is a trap. This month we have a mission team going to Haiti for a week. They will encounter Haitian believers who find freedom and joy in worship. Their joy is not hinged on material goods, carpeting, pews, lights, or a sound system. It comes from the contentment of having a Good Shepherd Who is willing to walk with us through every valley or desert. Not just walk beside us, but lead us through. Are you trapped by many foolish and harmful desires, or has the pursuit of riches and stuff become your priority? We need the freedom and joy that comes from worshiping in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Bro. Mike Z. July is a month to catch our breath! No Senior Choir practice on Monday the 2nd. Monday, July 9 10AM Senior Choir sings at Senior Care of St. Marys (on Dilworth, behind Donini s) Thursday, July 19 6PM Regular monthly Senior Adult dinner. Let s try and invite some seniors who have not been coming regularly or are new to our church. Bring a dish to pass. And we ll have a 4th of July/Red, White, and Blue theme. Watch the bulletin for extra events if we catch our breath!
