Small Faith Office Celebrates a Decade of Sharing Steve Valenzuela Diocese of San Bernardino This coming January 29, 2011, the Office of Small Faith Communities is hosting a special anniversary celebration called A Decade of Sharing, 2000-2010. Sr. Terry Rickard, OP, the current President and Executive Director will give the keynote address during the dinner portion of the evening.. The celebration will be begin with a multi-lingual liturgy followed by an international themed meal. Actually it has been more than ten years since Bishop Barnes, with the support of the Presbyteral Council, decided to bring RENEW 2000 to the Diocese of San Bernardino, CA as its Third Millennium project. First the diocese opened an Office of Renew in 1999. Then in 2002, with the closing of the RENEW 2000 process, the office was renamed the Office of Small Faith Communities with Sr. Susan DeGuide, RSM, the Renew Coordinator continuing as the first director. Over the past decade, following the RENEW process, the Office has launched its own original lectionary based faith sharing materials and developed a cadre of workshops, courses, retreats and other events to support the continued growth of small communities at each of the 97 parishes in the diocese.

Bob Moriarty SM Archdiocese of Hartford The Creation, Communion and the Universe Story conference sponsored by the Pastoral Department for Small Christian Communities (Archdiocese of Hartford) this past November was received with deep appreciation by the many who participated. Set into a small church community process style, Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grim, resident scholars at Yale University and founders of the Forum on Religion and Ecology did three presentations: 1.) The Evolutionary Vision of Teilhard de Chardin: Toward the Universe as Cosmic Body of Christ; 2.) The New Story of Thomas Berry: Communion at the Heart of the Universe; 3.) The Journey of the Universe: From the Beginning to the Earth Community. The upcoming issue of Gatherings, the department's periodic enrichment resource will feature condensed versions of two of the presentations. It will be accessible on line at www.sccquest.org.
