OCTOBER 2017 Commander s Message It is the end of one of the most pleasant September in memory. It was a blur to many of us, as usual, but looking back, golf, fishing, boating, all our outdoor activities were just beautiful. The Golf Tournament, Fashion Show, Bike week, The Hillbilly Fair and with Big Band on Shrimp night are fond memories of hard work rewarded with fun and success for our Legion family,. Looking forward we have the refurbished turkey shoots, all new targets Thanks to Herb and his crew Joe Balasz of JB Construction and Mike Rice Concrete. Barry will host a Mouse Race on the 21st of October (a day off for the Turkey Shoot). Nascar and NFL are on Sundays. It is October, the gateway to the Holiday season, crisp air, the foliage and more festivals - my favorite time at the lake. We have been spared the disasters that have plagued our country lately. Let us not forget their trials. They will recover as American always will by the grace of God and resilience of our citizens. See you at the Post, Mark OFFICE OF FIRST VICE COMMANDER IT S DUES TIME, YOUR 2018 DUES IS NOW DUE. WE CURRENTLY ARE AT 54%. OUR 2018 DUES IS $40.00

MESSAGE FROM AUXILLIARY PRESIDENT The benefit fish dinner for the Morton's son was a huge success. It was all due to the generosity of so many friends and family. A big thank you goes out to everyone who worked, sold tickets, or helped in any way. Thanks to all who mailed in their raffle tickets. Jared Smith won the l-pod. Due to your generosity we were able to give Jim and Retta three thousand dollars for their son's medical expenses. The Bakeless Bake Sale made two hundred dollars. Thanks to all who donated money and it is not to late to make a donation. Our unit lost two members in the last few months. Roseanna Shaffer and Marilyn Raus. Marilyn served two terms as our Unit President and one term as District Eight President. There was a Celebration of Life for Rex Dull, husband of Shirley Dull. Members of our Unit prepared and served food for Shirley and her family. Now we are busy preparing for the Fashion Show. Funds from this event helps support our Scholarship Programs. At our October 3 meeting, Connie Pack, District Eight President, is going to attend our meeting. It would be nice to see a lot of members there. October 21 the Legion is sponsoring a Mouse Race. On that day our Auxiliary is having a Silent Auction. If you have any new or slightly used items you would like to donate, please bring them to the Legion before October 21. October 3--Meeting Night. October 21-- Mouse Races and Auxiliary Silent Auction. October 20-22--Fall Conference. Jefferson City. Auxiliary President, Genny Rieckhoff Joint Kitchen Committee At the September meeting it was decided the Joint Kitchen Committee will be disbanded effective immediately. All items in the pantry (paper products, spices, condiments) are to be shared by each organization until the end of October. The only exception to this is if an item is depleted before that date; then, it is the responsibility of the group cooking to supply their products needed. Anyone who has an outstanding bill for the Joint Kitchen needs to turn it in as soon as possible. The folder in the kitchen will remain until October 18 th. If you have any invoices, receipts, etc. please put them in the folder with your name. If you purchase anything after September for the Joint Kitchen, there may not be funds for reimbursement. The Joint Kitchen Committee wishes you continued success in your kitchen enterprises.

SAL Article Thanks for the great crowd that came out to eat in September. We appreciate your continued support for our veterans and the American Legion. Hope to see you again in October. It s hard to believe it s already football season and October will be your first chance to get a little Holiday Spirit by winning your choice of a 1.75 Liter bottle of Jack Daniels, Captain Morgan, or Absolute Vodka. Hope you have a great fall and as always we thank our veterans and military for your service! Menu: October 11 Tenderloin Sandwich. Home Potato Chips, Slaw and Dessert AUXILIARY SILENT AUCTION
