SAINT NECTARIOS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH OF PALATINE, IL Imagine Possibilities the Sponsor A Day! Our Vision: To Proclaim the Orthodox Faith and Make the Church the Center of Family Life

WELCOME! Come and see all that St. Nectarios Church has to offer Whether you are new to the Parish or have been a steward for many years, welcome to St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church of Palatine, Illinois! We invite you and your family to participate in our spiritual, outreach, social, and youth ministries. Help us grow our ministries and outreach programs with dedication of your time, talent, and treasures to your Church. The Church is here for you and your family to proclaim the Orthodox faith and make the Church the center of your family s life! Would you like to learn more about our Parish? Visit www.stnectariosgoc.org Starting in 2018, St. Nectarios is changing its philosophy on Stewardship. Sponsoring one or more days of St. Nectarios Parish operations is an investment in the future of our community for our children and their children. Learn more about our spiritual, youth, outreach, and other abundant ministries by reviewing this booklet. Please sponsor one or more days, so we can grow our offerings for our children! 2

SPONSOR A DAY OF PARISH OPERATIONS Our Parish has flourished since its inception in 1974! Our goal is not to only sustain but grow our Parish membership, ministry offerings, and outreach opportunities, with an emphasis on Youth Ministries. To prepare our community for our children s children, we need to keep imagining the possibilities for our future! We have dedicated resources to our Pastoral Assistant for the youth and are committed to increase our spend on Youth Ministries year-overyear. We need to ensure St. Nectarios has the ministries to keep our children close to God and our Orthodox faith! The time is now! 3

Just like anyone of our homes or businesses, the Church has expenses to operate. Currently, our expenses are just over $1,000,000 per year. Ask yourself how much you spend on utilities, TV, cell phone, and other monthly expenses? Will you commit to set aside $233 per month to support St. Nectarios? A Stewardship offering of $233 per month (a total of $2,800 for the year) supports a full day of operations for St. Nectarios! Sponsoring one or more days of operations through your Stewardship will provide many more programs for our youth, family activities, and outreach for people in need. Imagine the many ways St. Nectarios can grow and serve you and your family with a larger budget. We could increase the amount of Youth Ministry offerings by adding activities and spiritual and fellowship opportunities, thereby increasing youth participation. We could increase family activities, such as bowling nights, game nights, or other family events. We could add family bible/religious study classes. We could enhance our Sunday School and other educational classes with up-to-date technology to respond to how our children learn in today s environment. We could build a larger library of materials and tools for our youth to learn about our faith. 4

We could stop relying on Greek Fest proceeds for operations (especially in case of bad weather) and use those proceeds for community outreach, to help the needy, or for other worthy causes. We could add office staff as necessary to address needs such as ministry coordination, communications, public relations/outreach. What are we missing? Tell us your ideas on how we can grow our Parish or address unmet needs. Send us a note with your Stewardship pledge or e-mail us through our website at: https://www.stnectariosgoc.org/contact. We are changing our philosophy on Stewardship: let s strengthen our finances and build a surplus that will allow us to make St. Nectarios the Parish of choice, the Parish that lives its spiritual and familycentric vision! Sponsor one or more days through your Stewardship pledge this year! 5

SPIRITUAL MINISTRIES The St. Nectarios Parish has served the spiritual needs of members and those interested in the Eastern Orthodox Church since 1974. We are one of the largest Orthodox Churches in the northern Chicago suburbs. We are blessed with the experienced leadership of the Reverend Father Peter G. Balkas, Protopresbyter Priest of St. Nectarios since 2001. Our Parish celebrates Divine Liturgy every Sunday beginning at 9:30 a.m., Orthros Service at 8:30 a.m. Many vespers and feast day services are held throughout the year on weekdays as well. To see a calendar of our services, visit www.stnectariosgoc.org. We update it often! Below are just some examples of the spiritual ministries offered at St. Nectarios: Adult Religious Education Sacraments: The Eucharist, Marriage, Baptism, Chrismation, Confession, The Holy Orders, Anointing the Sick with Holy Unction Special Services: Funerals, Memorial Services, Blessing of the Bread, The Great Blessing of the Water Music Ministries (Choir and Chanting) Learn more about our Clergy and Spiritual Ministries: Visit www.stnectariosgoc.org/about/clergy 6

Our Youth Ministries are the pride and joy of our Parish! The primary responsibility of our Pastoral Assistant is to focus on our youth. At St. Nectarios, we recognize the importance of spiritual and social offerings for our kids. They are the future of our Church, we want them to be close to God, create wonderful, lasting relationships like we did growing up, and make St. Nectarios the center of family life. YOUTH MINISTRIES Our current Youth Ministries are outlined below. Help us add pages of programs and activities through Sponsor A Day stewardship! Acolytes Boys age 9 and above are invited to experience serving in the Altar, which service emulates the angels and their service to God. Sunday School Our distinguished religious education program for children in grades Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade. Learn about the Orthodox faith, significance of religious holidays and feast days, and the understanding of the lives of the Saints. 7

Mommy & Me For mommies and their children (infants to 4 years old). In this group, parents learn about their special role within the Church and bond with their children. An opportunity to meet other parents and children to learn and play with other children! Hope & Joy (Kindergarten-5th grade) The mission of this ministry is to inform and form St. Nectarios youth into committed, loving, and enthusiastic Orthodox Christians, through worship, fellowship, fun, and service! GOYA (6th-12th grade) The Greek Orthodox Youth of America (GOYA) provides youth and teenagers with opportunities to participate in worship, volunteer and engage in philanthropic activities, and grow their Orthodox Christian faith. There are a variety of hands-on activities, community outreach, informed dialogue, liturgical services, and leadership opportunities. We have Youth Ministry Family Nights! See our calendar at: www.stnectariosgoc.org 8

Greek Education The Greek School Ministry is committed to providing a pleasant, nurturing and engaging learning environment where students can discover their talents and cultivate new skills and friendships as they study the Greek language. Day School The Day School provides an early childhood education program for the children in our community and the surrounding community where excellent academic standards are integrated within a faithbased program. St. Nectarios Athletic Program (SNAP) Many sporting events and teams make up the SNAP program in our Parish, including basketball teams for boys and girls in grades 3-12. Imagine the Possibilities of an enhanced Youth Ministries budget: more programs, more kids, more outreach to our kids attending college, more local community outreach opportunities, and more ways to keep the Church the center of family life! Register your children for our abundant Youth Ministries: Visit www.stnectariosgoc.org 9

OUTREACH Our St. Nectarios Parish organizes a great number of community outreach programs each year! As we grow our operations budget, we can do more outreach! What better way to teach our children the love of Christ than through more outreach programs? Our Youth Ministries will increase community outreach. Through Sponsor A Day stewardship, we will have the opportunity to do so much more! Our Philoptochos ( friends of the poor ) Society, is an active group driven by a genuine expression of Christian charity and compassion.
