During Holy Week we focus intensely on the arrest, trial, crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus Christ. And, we prepare our hearts for the glorious rising on Easter Sunday. Thursday, March 29, 7 pm is Maundy Thursday. Maundy is Latin for Holy, and this time of worship recalls the Last Supper and the and the ways Jesus prepared his followers to carry on a life of servanthood. We will worship in the sanctuary. Friday, March 30, 7 pm is Good Friday. The chancel choir has prepared powerful anthems to offer up as prayer during our worship in the sanctuary. As this is the retelling of the suffering and violent death of Christ, some may wonder why it is called Good Friday. The United Methodist General Board of Discipleship says this: The source of our term for the Friday before Easter, "Good Friday," is not clear. It may be a corruption of the English phrase "God's Friday," according to Professor Laurence Hull Stookey in Calendar: Christ's Time for the Church (p. 96). It is the common name for the day among English- and Dutchspeaking people. It is a day that proclaims God's purpose of loving and redeeming the world through the cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ. It is a day that is good because God was drawing the world to God's self in Christ. As seen in John's gospel, particularly, God was in control. God was not making the best of a bad situation, but was working out God's intention for the world winning salvation for all people. We call it "good" because we look backward at the crucifixion through the lens of Easter! On Easter morning, I will be at the church at 7 am for any who wish to gather in prayer and thanksgiving at the rising of the Son. An Easter Breakfast will be served in the Fellowship Hall from 7:30 until 11 am, hosted by the youth. Our Easter Celebration at 9:15 am will be in our Sanctuary. And, we will launch a new time of worship at 11 am: IMPACT Worship and Service. Share the news with everyone you meet. All are welcome here.

Lord Hear Our Prayers Each week, everyone who attends worship at Wesley Park is welcome to share any joys or concerns they may carry in their heart. These are the requests we received from the March 18th communication cards Ava Kropp - I pray for my Uncle Danny. Today my mom said that he might not wake up today and it was sad.
