Committed to His Will, His Way, and His Word Our Vision Statement "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery o f sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19 (NKJ) It is the vision of Mt. Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. During this year of increase we are thanking God for spiritual growth in our lives. Spiritual growth is more of Christ being expressed through less of you. As you seek to grow remember the words of the Apostle Paul, "I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14). Keep pressing and thanking God for the increase in your life! KINGDOMTIDE MOBC FAITH DEVELOPMENT!! August 31 November 29, 2014 (The Pulpit attire is Green) We are in the season of KINGDOMTIDE, the color of KINGDOMTIDE is GREEN. The color GREEN symbolizes growth. KINGDOMTIDE runs from August 31 until Advent. KINGDOMTIDE is the newest of the seasons, dating no farther back than the late 1930 s. KINGDOMTIDE gives place for due attention to the eternal presence of Christ and His Kingship with the parallel emphasis upon our stewardship. Its emphasis on the kingship of Christ and His kingdom, challenges us in our daily lives and in every area of our existence. Theme For This Quarter: SUSTAINING HOPE The study of this quarter is an examination of prophetic literature, as well as material from the wisdom book of Job, on the subject of hope. It highlights the prophecies concerning restoration and return of the people of Israel from exile and the declarations of Job as examples of sustaining hope through communal and individual hardship and sufferings. NEXT WEEK S LESSON: October 19, 2014 HOPE COMPLAINS Job 24:1, 9-12, 19-25 There are times when it seems as though the wicked people in the world get all the breaks and cannot be stopped from doing terrible things. Job complained that God supported the evil ones, though only for a while. At the same time he affirmed that God saves the needy and gives the poor hope in their struggles. * MONDAY: Set a Time to Remember Me Job 14:7-13 * TUESDAY: You Destroy the Hope of Mortals Job 14:14-22 * WEDNESDAY: Why is My Pain Unending? Jeremiah 15:10-18 * THURSDAY: Our Hope is in God Jeremiah 14-14-22 * FRIDAY: Shelter from the Storm Psalm 55:1-8 * SATURDAY: I Call Upon God Psalm 55:12-23 * SUNDAY: The Poor and the Mighty Job 24:1, 9-12, 19-25 HOW TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR HEART Perhaps while reading the announcements you realized you have never made a Christian commitment. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need for a Savior. 2. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). 3. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). 4. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell some one else what Jesus has done in your life! 2 Sermon Highlights: October 5, 2014 Title: A Negative Situation Text: John 6:1-14 Main Idea: Jesus can take your negative situation and work miracles. In dealing with a negative situation Jesus: Points: 1) Gives us direction. 2) Gives us an opportunity. 3) Gives us an example. For the full message order a CD or DVD of the service from the Media Ministry. 1. Age Targeted Teaching: Where else can your kids get Biblical instruction that's focused toward their developmental abilities? 2. Friends: In Sunday School, your child will build positive friendships with their peers by discovering God's Word together. 3. It's Fun: Sunday School is not Disney Land, but our teachers do work hard to teach the Bible in ways that are relevant and fun for kids. 4. Spiritual Mentors: A dedicated teacher can be a Christian role model who supports you and helps inspire the faith of your child. 5. Systematic Bible Learning: Our curriculum is designed to give a broad foundation, so children will understand how all the parts of Scripture point to Christ. 6. Praying Teachers: Our teachers consistently pray for your child's faith to grow. Coming to Sunday School gives another occasion for God to answer those requests. 7. Big Reward For a Small Investment: If you're already coming to church, just come a little earlier or stay a little later. 8. Send the Right Message: Making Sunday School a priority shows your kids that God's Word really does matter. 9. Adult Bible Fellowship: While the children enjoy their class, you can fellowship with other adults in your own Bible study group. 10. Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV): Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
