FROM THE PRESIDING ELDER July proved to be a very exciting month for all of us in Marlin. Our church sign was installed on one of our Chapel Windows and the Logo was placed on the entry door to our Chapel. The placement of the signs has proved to be a very good public relations project for us. Elder Rickey Welch and his son, Brandon, have returned from Black Gum, Oklahoma where Brandon attended the youth camp and Rickey taught an archer class. A Pre-baptismal class has been presented to Brandon, as well as two other young people. Brandon is scheduled to be baptized on the 17 th of this month. Our Missionary outreach program appears to be gaining ground. We hope to schedule the Go Ye and Teach program to two adult couples with several others pending. The four elders of our congregation are very active in telling our story to others. Elder Roger Schuelke has just returned

from Midland, Texas where he made contact with one couple. It is the desire of the Marlin priesthood to go where ever an opportunity exists for sharing our story. Elder Richard Hoover has just completed an up-to-date Marlin Branch Register and distribution will be made to interested individuals within the next two months. If you would like a copy please make your desires known. Planning for our one hundred and eleventh year celebration scheduled for the last week-end in September continues. Information is very limited at this printing; however, information will be furnished to all interested individuals when it becomes available. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sermon notes from Sermon August 27, 2006 THE MASTER BUILDER We come together here today expecting to be fed. So what are you prepared to receive? Let us review a few things that Apostle Paul discussed with the Corinthians Saints that lived in Corinth. (First Corinthians Chapter 1, 2 and 3). Apostle Paul told these Saints that he was an apostle, called of Jesus Christ through the will of God. Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be Saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours. So here today, I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ through the will of God unto the church of God here in Marlin, Texas to you that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, Called to be Saints with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Paul urged the brethren in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ that they speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among them, but that ye are perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. So here today my mission is the same. Paul explained that the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom; however, he preached Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness. It is my desire to preach, teach, and expound to you the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified. So you and I have been chosen to be a part of the Kingdom of God as we put on the Character of Christ and place him First in Our Life. To place God first in our life, to have his character become part of us is very difficult; however, if we want to be a part of his Kingdom we have to place this physical body is subjection and let God be the ruler in our life. I do not come to you with Excellency of speech or of wisdom declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I come to you today declaring unto you the testimony of God. I come to you in weakness and in fear, and in much trembling. My speech and my preaching is not with enticing words of man s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power; that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. It is written that eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. Paul fed the Corinthian Saints with milk and not with meat for they were not able to receive it for they had not developed to the degree of spirituality required to receive the full word of the Lord. See 1 Peter 2:2 to help you understand. Paul planted, Apollo s watered; but God gave the increase; so it is here today my fore-fathers planted the word of God in my heart, but God has given me understanding. So I am here today seeking to plant the seeds of God in your life and asking God to give the increase. I am seeking to lay the foundation and hopefully others will assist in the building process. Every man must take heed how he build the foundation. For no foundation can stand unless the foundation is Jesus Christ. I

want to stress N0 LASTING FOUNDATION CAN BE BUILT ON GOLD, SILVER, PRECIOUS STONES, WOOD, HAY, and STUBLE OR OTHER THINGS. We must have our foundation on Jesus Christ. Let none of us think that we can ignore Jesus Christ. He is the Master Builder He does not build on Wood, Gold, Silver, Precious Stones or Hay. Our foundation must be on Jesus Christ. He must be placed FIRST in our life. If we receive the Word of God and fail to follow his Commandments we will find ourselves lacking when we stand before God to be judged in the World to Come. I want you to take a look at this piece of wood that was given to me yesterday. I had asked some of my family to tell me what they would like for me to talk about in my sermon today. Sharon handed me this piece of wood and stated talk about this. As I thought about this piece of wood I decided that it did not come from an old tree. I also found that it lacked the polish and finish of a Master Builder. So I relate this piece of wood to a human life. Some lives are cut short. Some lives do not grow up and some are never polished by the Master Builder. A master wood worker could take this piece of wood, polish and develop it and it could be made into a beautiful piece of workmanship. So it is with our unpolished life. Our God, the Master Builder, can take our life, mold it and our life can become a polished and useful life or we can permit this life of ours to be of no use for anything except to be placed in the fire and burned. Today we are in the valley of decision. We can remain in an unpolished condition or we can submit our self to the Master Builder and be a part of His coming Kingdom. Of course, as always, we have our agency and we will make the choice. The question is and always will be will our decision be for the Master Builder or will it be for some other? Arthur Allen Presiding Elder Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Marlin, Texas Branch August 27, 2006 (Reviewed August 2008) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES FROM SERMON PRESENTATION JULY 20, 2008 Scripture I Corinthians 13:1-3. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. Though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. The question was asked one day of an old preacher what was the greatest lesson ever learned in his 50 odd years of preaching. After thinking about it for a few days he boiled it down to just one thing that made the most difference in his life and sustained him through all of his trials. The one thing that I could always rely on when tears and heartbreak and pain and fear and sorrow paralyzed me the only thing that would comfort was this verse. Jesus loves me this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong, we are weak but He is strong Yes, Jesus loves me. The bible tells me so. So here today I want to talk about why I believe in Jesus Christ. John 3:16,l7 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to

condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 1:1-5, and 14. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of man. And the light shinneth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.) Those of you that have been attending our services have received messages that have stated our belief in a God who is infinite, eternal, omnipotent, omnipresent by the power of his Spirit --- a God of light and truth, a God of creative purpose, a God of personality, a God of love, a God who desires the fellowship of the men he has created. Because of this love which could not and would not let men go, God himself came into the world in the person of his only begotten son, seeking after fallen man, showing him the way back to his Creator, giving himself sacrificially that man might again be free to choose for himself between life and death. Later Day Saints believe in Jesus Christ as the Only Begotten Son of God, the Father; a Son who is in purpose, work and power with his Father. We believe in his miraculous conception and birth, in his death and resurrection, in his second coming to judge both quick and dead and to rule over his kingdom when all the kingdoms of this world shall have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ. We believe that Jesus advent into the world as a babe was in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, and that the testimonies of his divinity in the New Testament are true. Jesus was coexistent with his Father. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. See John 1:1, 2. The same was in the beginning with God. He is the Creator of this world, acting in concert with the Father; For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible all things were created by him and for him. See Col 1:16. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. See John 1:3 Jesus was and is the Christ, he who was sent to be the Savior of the world. There is no other name given under heaven whereby men may be saved. He is the one Mediator between God and man. No man cometh to the Father but by me. Because he is the only mediator between God and Man, when the world is brought to judgment every knee shall bow to him, and every tongue shall confess that he is Lord, and that his judgments are just. Even those who have rebelled against him, refused to confess his name, and thereby placed themselves outside the realm of salvation, will be constrained to confess that they were wrong that he is Lord, and the only means whereby they might have been saved. While he was on earth, Jesus established a church, and made it the vehicle through which his Spirit was to operate, his will be communicated, his ordinances and sacraments administered, and his authority transmitted. He set in that church certain officers apostles, prophets, pastors, elders, priests, teachers, deacons, bishops, seventies, evangelists. He established certain doctrines and ordinances. He made provisions for the enjoyment of certain gifts and blessings, which were to follow the believer not only in the days of the apostles, but to the end of time. Latter Day Saints are unique in another belief about Jesus. The Book of Mormon teaches that He visited the American continent, selected a ministry, organized a church and taught his doctrine here. No other explanation can be found for the widespread use of the cross in pre-columbian American art

and architecture, nor for the almost universal traditions among the Indians of Central America and Mexico of a bearded white God, who appeared out of the east, taught them arts and crafts and high code of ethics and morality, and departed with the promise that he would come again. The Book of Mormon is a powerful second witness to the divinity of the Christ whose sheep were not all in the fold of Palestine, but who promised that in his kingdom there would be one fold and one shepherd. Last of all, and most important of all, we believe that Christ s atonement was brought to pass by his resurrection. We believe that he rose from the dead; that he appeared to his disciples; that he ascended into heaven; that from his place at the right hand of God the Father he will come again in visible bodily form to bring about the judgment of men and the consummation of all things. We believe in a living Christ One whose presence and Spirit are still felt by his ministry one who still can and will speak to those men whose spiritual care are attuned to hear. If he lives not, then our hopes are vain; our works are futile; our future is oblivion and extinction. But because he lives, we know that we too shall live, if we have claimed him as our Redeemer, and accepted his grace and his atonement. We join with others of this church,,, and now, after the many testimonies which have been give of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him, that the he lives; that he is the Only Begotten of the Father, and that by him, and through him, and of him the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God. Arthur Allen High Priest, Marlin, Texas Branch Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints July 20, 2008 NOTE: This presentation was inspired by Evan A. Fry, Radio Minister for the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the early 1950 s. In his Series A #3 message We believe in Jesus Christ. And to Kelly A. Olson, of Waco, Texas who told the story of the old preacher that gave a new version of Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: If you have questions that cannot be answered by the local church, please contact our church headquarters as indicated below.
