MEDITATION (Continued from page 1) should plan to do always. Psalm 111 is a wonderfully uplifting Psalm that attempts to reflect on the works of the LORD. SIGNIFICANT OBSERVATIONS ABOUT THE WORKS OF GOD What are some significant observations the Psalmist made concerning the works of the LORD? The following statements are worth pondering over prayerfully. Five things stood out to the Psalmist. 1. Great The works of the LORD are great Psalm 111:2 2. Honourable and glorious His work is honourable and glorious Psalm 111:3 3. Wonderful He has made His wonderful works to be remembered Psalm 111:4 4. Power He has declared to His people the power of His works Psalm 111:6 5. Verity and justice The works of His hands are verity and justice Psalm 111:7 WHAT THE WORKS OF THE LORD REVEAL ABOUT GOD The works of the LORD obviously manifest the Person of God! Let us ponder carefully the following thoughts. Three things stand out. 1. Righteousness His righteousness endures forever Psalm 111:3 2. Gracious and Compassionate The LORD is gracious and full of compassion Psalm 111:4 page 2 (Continued on page 3)
MEDITATION (Continued from page 2) 3. Holy and awesome Holy and awesome is His name Psalm 111:9 APPROPRIATE RESPONSES It is right and proper that we make appropriate responses to the LORD. Let us learn from the Psalmist how we ought to respond. 1. Praise Praise the LORD! I will praise the LORD with my whole heart. Psalm 111:1 2. Study the works of the LORD The works of the LORD are great, studied by all who have pleasure in them. Psalm 111:2 3. Fear the LORD The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Psalm 111:10a 4. Doing the will of God revealed A good understanding have all those who do His commandments Psalm 111:10b The works of the LORD are many as we reflect on these past 43 years of ministry at Bethany! In His Grace, Camille Dear Pastor Charlie Letters that warm the heart I want to take this time to express my deep appreciation to all at Bethany for the support they gave to me and my family during this time of bereavement, for the wake on Thursday (11 August) and funeral services on Friday. I want to gratefully thank you and Sally for being present over the 2 days. I want to thank the rest of the pastoral team as well for their show of support. My fellow session members were there too with me to share this time of sorrow. There were many other members of Bethany who came to help and to show support. My family was surprised to see the kind of help rendered by Bethany. There were the car park ushers who did a marvelous job in directing traffic on Thursday night. It would have been chaos if not for them. There were the Marthas and Marys of Bethany who helped in so many ways. They brought their fans to cool the house, they provided meals over the 2 days, baked cakes, made sandwiches wrapped lovingly, they bought drinks and even brought these drinks all the way to CCK Christian cemetery as well. Many brought out their umbrellas when it rained in the afternoon of the second day. (Continued on page 8) page 7
(Continued from page 7) Many members of Bethany came to show support through wreathes, gifts, calls, WhatsApp messages and their presence during the wake and burial service. I also want to thank Dr. Tan Kok Yang for all the advice given to the family and help personally given to my dad during his short 2-day stay at KTPH to make him comfortable. On behalf of my family, Emily and I want to take this opportunity to thank the brethren at Bethany for their wonderful show of support. Please forgive me if I have forgotten to thank anyone. Many may have good deeds which I have not seen but God sees. God bless all of you. Thank you Jacob WORSHIP Psalm 67:3-4 Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You. Oh, let the nation be glad and sing for joy! For You shall judge the people righteously, And govern the nations of the earth. 1. A Great Desire expressed a) That all the people on earth may praise the Lord b) That all the nations on the earth be glad and sing for joy 2. A Great Appreciation a) That God is a righteous Judge b) That He will always judge righteously c) That He governs the nations of the earth page 8
I HAVE REDEEMED YOU Sin leaves a terrible mark on the soul, The heart and the mind are not whole. There is fear that one is forgotten by God, Sin clouds our understanding of the Lord. But God has the power to deal with all our sins, He can blot out our transgressions from deep within. He can remove our sins as far as the East is from the West, He buries our sins in the deepest ocean; He knows what is best! All God desires is that we return to Him in humility, He desires that we come to Him in genuine sincerity. He will offer redemption as only He can truly give, To the worst of sinners, He will say, I forgive. Let the heart sing a great song of praise and jubilation, Let every redeemed soul sing in great adoration! The glory of the Lord is most wonderfully displayed, In His redemption plan, the vilest sinner He will re-make! Inspiration: Isaiah 44:21-23 Charles Tan POETRY CORNER page 9
