THE CENTER PIECE STIEFVATER MEXICO MISSIONS Ok, unless you have been living under a rock somewhere along the bank of the scenic Big Pigeon River; you are no doubt aware that West End Baptist has been firmly committed to Paul and Jean Stiefvater s Mexico Missions. Every year, when they return, they bring reports of numerous souls having been saved as they stood in the face of blaring music and glaring religiosity as they faithfully handed out their rather unusual Bible Tracts to thousands of foreign tourists and national Mexicans/Mayans. You can see it in their faces and hear it in the voices; they love to go there and face the multitudes of obstacles to bring the Gospel to untold thousands of souls who come to the tourist centers and live in the backstage cities. There is always a problem getting there. There is always a road trip in a crammed bus or van or midget automobile. Somehow, it is even comical to hear Paul talk about being sardined in a one seater with thousands of other people (maybe I have exaggerated just a bit); but they always have a new adventure where literally thousands of people (no exaggeration) are eager to take, read, pass on, and ask for more of the Gospel Tracts they have. They always seem to come home with a case of Montezuma s Revenge ; but it never seems to hinder their work while they are there.

The devil always seems to stick to his guns and tear Paul s lawn mower up just before he goes; but something he doesn t seem to have figured out is that there is always a Steve or a George that will take care of that. Ok, so maybe most of us cannot go; cannot actually make the trip to stand in the face of the objections and obscenities; cannot do the front line; but there are always places for everyone to fill in the gap. We can give! We can pray! We can take care of things here while they are there! West End loves to be a part of that ministry, because it is happening there; and their huge supplies of Gospel Tracts give them an opening to share Jesus Christ with huge numbers of souls who otherwise would die in their sins and go to Hell when they die. Paul and Jean Stiefvater real live missionaries; right here in our midst!

CHURCH WEBSITE: WWW.WEBAPTISTCHURCH.ORG Weekly Newsletter Five Minute Columns Church Information (Bart Ellison, Webmaster) BIG EAST TENNESSEE BAPTIST ASSOCIATION MEETING Our church has been asked to host the three sessions of a Pre-Crusade meeting on Sunday Tuesday, October 9-11. Sunday evening, Brother Bobby Welch (formerly pastor of First Baptist Church of Daytona, Florida; and a former President of the Southern Baptist Convention) will preach; and our choir will sing. Monday evening, Brother Randy Davis (formerly pastor of the First Baptist Church of Sevierville; and currently Executive Director of the Tennessee Baptist Convention) will preach. Tuesday evening, Brother Don Pearson (Prayer Specialist for the Tennessee Baptist Convention) will slow things a bit as we begin having special prayer for the big County-Wide Crusade of Evangelism next year. Dr. Horace Brown, Director of Missions for the East Tennessee Baptist Association will be in charge of these meetings.

VICTORY BIBLE INSTITUTE If you are interested in taking a course in the next session, you should see either Brother Paul or Brother Tom. All classes are recorded in case you should have to miss a session; and are freely available to anyone for either independent study or to review the class material. Tell everyone you meet about this great opportunity of Bible Study from a fundamentalist point of view. If you choose to receive the credit for these courses, it will be granted by the Victory Bible Institute at the completion of the series of classes; but the knowledge you can gain from each individual class will be invaluable in the time we have left. FIVE MINUTES WITH TOM MOOTY Although this column is published on Thursdays in the Newport Plain Talk, it is generally written weeks or sometimes months in advance. From time to time, special current events cause us to want to drop in a timely column. Please pray for this uniquely written piece (as described by a reader) that uses humor and history to make a spiritual point; and be certain you tell your friends about this unusual newspaper column by our Pastor. We will never know this side of heaven how many people are reading this; and how much good is being done through it. We will just leave these things up to God; and keep plugging along. OUR NEXT COMMUNION SERVICE (LED BY BROTHER JORDON WILLIAMS) IS SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY EVENING, JULY 31 AT 6:00 PM.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Our church has several mission projects; from local to international! These include radio and internet outreach ministries; benevolence, Relay for Life, March of Dimes, East Tennessee Baptist Association, community projects, and Stiefvater Missions. One of our local mission projects - our annual Vacation Bible School - has been scheduled for all day Saturday, July 23. This is a very special Vacation Bible School event which was tried last year, and received very well. It is sponsored by our Children s Church Ministry. The school is available to all children from age 4 through Grade 6. A light breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack will be provided, along with tremendous interactive Bible studies, activities and lesson-centered crafts. We need YOU to help; please tell Lisa Ottinger.
