Revelation Chapter 11 Lesson 12

Revelation 11:1-2 1 And a reed (measuring rod) was given to me like a staff, and I was told, rise up and measure the temple of God and the altar and those worshipping in it. 2 and do not measure the outer courtyard; leave it out, because it was given to the nations, and the holy city they will trample for forty two months.

The History of the Jerusalem Temple First Temple Built by Solomon c. 960 BC Destroyed by Babylonians in 587 BC Second Temple built by Zerubbabel c. 515 BC Dismantled by Herod the Great in 20BC Herodian Temple Built by Herod the Great; begun in 20 BC; not completed until 50 90 years later Destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD

Measuring Rod Ezekiel 40:5 Now there was a wall all around the outside of the temple area. The length of the measuring reed in the man s hand was six long cubits, each being a cubit and a handbreadth in length; so he measured the thickness of the wall, one reed; and the height, one reed.

Forty Two Months Daniel 7:25 - He shall speak words against the Most High, shall wear out the holy ones of the Most High, and shall attempt to change the sacred seasons and the law; and they shall be given into his power for a time, two times, and half a time. Daniel 12:7 - The man clothed in linen, who was upstream, raised his right hand and his left hand toward heaven. And I heard him swear by the one who lives forever that it would be for a time, two times, and half a time, and that when the shattering of the power of the holy people comes to an end, all these things would be accomplished. Revelation 11:2 - but do not measure the court outside the temple; leave that out, for it is given over to the nations, and they will trample over the holy city for forty-two months. Revelation 11:3 - And I will grant my two witnesses authority to prophesy for one thousand two hundred sixty days, wearing sackcloth. Revelation 12:6 - and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, so that there she can be nourished for one thousand two hundred sixty days. Revelation 12:14 - But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle, so that she could fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to her place where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time. Revelation 13:5 - The beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months.

Revelation 11:3-5 3 And I will give to my two witnesses power and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days being clothed in sackcloth. 4 These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands which have stood before the earth. 5 And if anyone wishes to harm them, fire comes out of their mouths and consumes their enemies; and if anyone wishes to harm them, it is necessary for them to be killed in this manner.

Revelation 11:6 6 These (two) have authority to shut the sky, in order that rain does not fall during their prophesying, and they have authority over the waters to turn it into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague as often as they wish.

Revelation 11:7-8 7 And when they have completed their testimony, the beast, the one coming up out of the abyss will make war with them and he will conquer them and kill them. 8 And their corpses (will lie) in the street of the great city, which is called spiritually (πνευματικῶς) Sodom and Egypt, also where their Lord was crucified.

Revelation 11:9-10 9 And for three and a half days the people, and the tribes, and the languages, and the nations will see the corpses and their bodies they will not permit to be placed into a tomb. 10 And those dwelling upon the earth will rejoice over them and they will cheer and send presents to one another, because these two prophets tormented the inhabitants of the earth.

Revelation 9:11-12 11 And after three days and a half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood upon their feet, and great fear fell upon those seeing them. 12 And they heard a great voice from heaven in a cloud, and their enemies watched them.

Revelation 11:13 13 And in that hour a great earthquake came and the tenth of the city fell and seven thousand names of men were killed in the earthquake and the rest became afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.

Revelation 11:14 14 The second woe has departed, behold the third woe is coming quickly.

Revelation 11:15 15 And the seventh angel sounded his trumpet and there were loud voices in the heaven saying; The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever.

Revelation 11:16-17 16 And the twenty four elders who are seated upon their thrones before God fell upon their faces and worshipped God, 17 saying, We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the one who is and the one who was, because you have taken your great power and begun to reign.

Revelation 11:18 18 And the nations were enraged, and your wrath came and the time to judge the dead, and to give the reward to your slaves, the prophets, and the holy ones and the ones fearing your name, the small and the great and to destroy the ones destroying the earth.

Revelation 11:19 19 And the temple of God in heaven was opened and the ark of the covenant was seen in his temple, and there were flashes of lightening, thunder and an earthquake and great hail.
