Saint Ann s Parish 1st Sunday of Lent February 22, 2015 Today, the First Sunday of Lent, we celebrate a very important event: the Rite of Election of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). With all the discussion about people leaving the Church, I think we often forget the many people who choose to embrace the Catholic faith. They often do so for all the right reasons, and we can learn a lot from their journey. Lent is actually their final push the homestretch to the Easter Vigil and the completion of their Sacraments of Initiation. Many of them have traveled a long road of faith-journeying in order to arrive at this point in their lives. In our Lenten practices we travel with them, supporting them with our prayers and allowing their journey to draw us closer to the Master. This year we have a great size group of individuals who have asked to be baptized, to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church, or to complete their initiation. We have three people who will be baptized at the Easter Vigil and seventeen others to either enter into full communion with the Catholic faith or to complete their initiation! That is a fantastic number for a small parish such as our own. It is truly a sign that the Holy Spirit is working overtime here at St. Ann s. I know you will support them with your prayers as they journey through their final preparation for the sacraments this Lent. They will celebrate three scrutinies at Mass on the 3 rd through 5 th Sundays of Lent. The Serra Club Luncheon Thomas Colluci, a 3rd year theology student at St. Joseph s Seminary will be the guest speaker at the February 25th meeting of the Serra Club of the Bronx and Westchester.
