We gain some understanding of what the pagan Canaanite culture was like when we consider 2 Kings 21:1 9, 16 17, a passage that describes how the ungodly Israelite king, Manasseh, followed the detestable practicesofthenationsthatinhabitedthelandofcanaan: Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalemfifty fiveyears.hismother snamewashephzibah. 2 Hedidevilinthe eyesofjehovah, followingthedetestablepracticesofthenationsjehovahhad drivenoutbeforetheisraelites. 3 HerebuiltthehighplaceshisfatherHezekiah had destroyed; he also erected altars to Baal and made an Asherah pole, as Ahab king of Israel had done.
