Zion Lutheran Church Sunday, March 18, 2018 Pastor Karen Nelson presiding We Prepare for Worship OPENING HYMN Celebrate Love (Chorus) Celebrate love, love, love. Celebrate love, love, love. Celebrate love so amazing. He's creating His wonderful love in you. 1) We can celebrate His love today. Jesus loves ev'ryone. We can celebrate new life today. Jesus loves ev'ryone. (Chorus) 2) We can sing about His love for us. Jesus loves ev'ryone. He is living here inside of us. Jesus loves ev'ryone. (Chorus) WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS SHARING OF THE PEACE The peace of the Lord be with you always And also with you (Please share the Peace of the Lord with those around you, especially with any worshippers you may not know.) ORDER OF CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Most merciful God, We confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed; by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us and lead us so that we may delight in your will and walk in you ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen Almighty God, in his mercy, has given his Son to die for us and, for his sake, forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
PRAYER OF THE DAY (in unison) O God, with steadfast love you draw us to yourself and in mercy you receive our prayers. Strengthen us to bring forth the fruits of the Spirit, that through life and death we may live in your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen REPRISE Celebrate Love (Chorus) Celebrate love, love, love. (Chorus) CHILDREN S MESSAGE We Hear God s Word The First Reading Jeremiah 31:31-34 This is the Word of the Lord The Second Reading Hebrews 5:5-10 This is the Word of the Lord The Gospel Reading John 12:20-33 This is the Gospel of the Lord MESSAGE We Respond to God s Grace Pastor Karen Nelson SONG OF THE DAY When I Survey the Wondrous Cross (LBW #482) 1) When I survey the wondrous cross On which the prince of the glory died, My richest gain I count but loss And pour contempt on all my pride. 2) Forbid it Lord, that I should boast Save in the death of Christ, my God; All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. 3) See, from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down. Did e er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? 4) Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a tribute far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all! AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen

Restore unto me the joy of your salvation, and renew a right Spirit within me. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer. We Share in Christ s Meal WORDS OF CONSECRATION THE LORD S PRAYER (in unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION (All who believe that Christ died for their sins are welcome at the Table of Grace. Children who do not yet receive Communion receive a blessing. If you prefer grape juice, it is the clear liquid in the center of the tray.) Broken In Love This is My body, broken in love; Take it and eat and remember Me. This is My blood poured out in love; Take it and drink and remember Me. For love is willing ev'ry day to die in order to live, And love is patient for a way to share the gifts that I give. (Repeat All) My Faith Looks Up to Thee (LBW # 479) 1) My faith looks up to thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior divine! Now hear me while I pray, Take all my guilt away, Oh, let me from this day Be wholly thine! 2) May thy rich grace impart Strength to my fainting heart, My zeal inspire; As thou hast died for me, Oh, may my love to thee Pure, warm, and changeless be, A living fire! 3) While life s dark maze I tread And griefs around me spread, Be thou my guide; Bid darkness turn to day, Wipe sorrow s tears away, Nor let me ever stray From thee aside. 4) When ends life s transient dream, When death s cold, sullen stream Shall o er me roll; Blest Savior, then, in love Fear and distrust remove; Oh, bear me safe above, A ransomed soul!
Church in the Wildwood 1. There s a church in the valley by the wildwood, no lovelier spot in the dale; No place is so dear to my childhood, as the little brown church in the vale. (Chorus) O Come to the church in the wildwood. O come to the church in the vale. No spot is so dear to my childhood, as the little brown church in the vale. 2. O come the church in the wildwood, to the trees where the wild flowers bloom; Where the parting hymn will be chanted, we will weep by the side of the tomb. (Chorus) 3. How sweet on a clear Sabbath morning, to list to the clear ringing bell; Its tones so sweetly are calling; O come to the church in the vale. (Chorus) 4. From the church in the valley by the wildwood, when day fades away into night; I would fain from this spot of my childhood; Wing my way to the mansions of light.
