Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting for forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread. Jesus answered, It is written: man shall not live by bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Prayer Station 1: Feed the Hungry 1. Look at the pictures of things we like and things we need. Sort into one bowl the things we need and into the other things we want. 2. Think about what we really need. 3. What did Jesus say is the one thing we really need? Think about why Jesus said that. How can you find out more about the word of God? 4. Fill in 3 lines of your GodHelpUs acrostic. Look at the children s bible story books for some ideas. 5. Pray a prayer of supplication/intercession for those who do not have their basic daily needs and for aid agencies trying to help them and sharing the good news of Jesus with them.
Then the devil took Jesus to the holy city and set him on the highest point of the temple. If you are the son of God, he said, throw yourself down. For it is written: He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. Jesus answered him, It is also written: Do not put the Lord your God to the test. Is there anything that worries you or scares you? We don t have to test God s care for us. We can trust that God our Father will look after us when we need his help.
Prayer Station 2: Do Something Amazing 1. Draw a picture or write some words about things that worry or scare you, then screw them up and throw them in the bin at the foot of the cross 2. Fill in 3 lines of your GodHelpUs acrostic. 3. Pray a prayer of thanks to God that you can trust him for his provision and protection day by day
Again the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendour. All this I will give you, the devil said, if you will only bow down and worship me. Jesus said to him, Away from me, Satan! For it is written: worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.
Prayer Station 3: Take over 1. Make the world map working together 2. Stick post-its on the map/globe on countries where there is war/conflict. Pray for peace in those places as you do 3. Think about whether Jesus could bring peace and security to the world by crushing all this opposition and hatred. Would that bring peace? 4. Decorate a picture of a sword. When you have finished turn it so that it points down. What shape does it remind you of? 5. Fill in 3 lines of your GodHelpUs acrostic. 6. Pray a prayer to say sorry for the times we try to get our own way by hurting other people and say thank you that Jesus came to bring peace and forgiveness through his death on the cross.
Lent is a period of 40 days, to remind us of the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness, preparing for his big mission. Lent is 40 days of preparation for Easter. Our preparation can include thinking about how we can live our lives as Jesus wants us to, learning to know him more by reading the bible and praying, especially asking him to forgive us for wrong things we have done and to help us follow him. It can be a time when we give up things as an act of self-denial but can also be a time to take up things as acts of love for other people.
Prayer Station 4: Take up something for Lent 1. Make a card box 2. Decorate each side with a picture or words about things you can do to help someone 3. Choose a sweet to put in the box 4. Seal the box 5. This is for you to keep through Lent and to give to someone else at Easter. 6. Who will you save it for? Pray for them
Jesus was in the desert for 40 days
Imagine staying here for 40 days and 40 nights!
Prayer Station 5: Jesus temptations 1. Think about Jesus temptations as being a tug of war between Jesus and Satan. It was a tug of war that Jesus won because he knew what his Father wanted him to do. 2. We will offer our acrostic prayers and sing Bind us together.
