This leads us to renew our baptismal life at the feast of the Resurrection on April 5. Human Trafficking - Freedom Climb: It happens everywhere - even in Sudbury. It is more prevalent in far away countries. A local couple, Ben and Stacey Horner, will take part in a fundraising event to address sex trafficking in MOLDAVA (near Romania and Ukraine). This country is known as the epicenter of trafficking. February 1, 2015 Parish Prayer Chain Seeking spiritual support? Call 705-522-8789 to start a chain of prayer support for parishioners Praying Naked: A Four Week Journey into Prayer: The title for this workshop comes from a book of the same title by Anthony De Mello, s j. He struggled long and hard with this title. He asked different people for opinions. One man he talked to was a porter in an airport. He was a very intelligent, deeply spiritual, black southern Baptist. He said, It is a beautiful title. Whenever you stand before God in prayer, you must stand stripped of everything your possessions, your ego, your clothes, (much like the publican in the temple). I think it is a very appropriate title for a workshop on prayer. During the four weeks (Feb. 9 Mar. 2), from 7 p.m. 8:15 p.m., together we will draw from Scripture, ancient and modern writers, and experiences to explore prayer and develop a mature prayer habit and explore new prayer practices. The material we will use is from a book by Fr. Ron Rolheiser. Books will be ordered and there will be a charge of $10 but do not let the money keep you away. The costs will be covered if a participant cannot pay. Faith grows in community. Please consider being a part of this journey. Calling all Young parishioners in Grade 6-8. We have been invited to join the youth of Glad Tidings for their amazing ENCOUNTER 2015. Worship, speaking, stories, great food and amazing games will go into this life changing weekend designed specifically for you in grade 6-8. The entire event is on church property with food delivered and sleeping accommodations for both genders on different floors. February 20-21. Doors open on Friday at 6pm. The conference will be over on Saturday at 3pm with students ready to be picked up. Event Registration is $20/student. This includes a Friday night snack, Saturday morning breakfast and Saturday lunch as well as admission to all events taking place over the weekend. Registration deadline is Thursday February 5th. In the Door - Out the Window! Yes - donations come in every Sunday and by the end of the week have gone out the window. Last week I signed 11 cheques for a total of $4, 323.96 for: utilities, gas, staff salaries, Inner City Home (monthly donation), Rectory, repairs and maintenance. Your regular generosity covers such expenses. Saturday January 31st is the Feast of St. John Bosco the patron saint of youth. John Bosco lived in Turin, Italy and even before he became a priest, he gathered poor and abandoned street boys and educated them to becoming good Christians and honest citizens. In 1859, he founded the Salesian order named after St. Francis de Sales who primarily operates shelters for homeless or at-risk youth, schools, provide technical, vocational and language instruction and community centers for youth. Today the Salisians can be found in over 130 countries with 4 in Canada. Every year for 18 years now our parish CWL and parish Youth Ministry partner with the Bedrolls for Streetkids Project to remember St. John Bosco s work over 150 years ago for and with at-risk youth and to acknowledge the work of the Spirit through his action. "New Heart, New Spirit" The theme of this upcoming season is New Heart, New Spirit. It s about reconciliation -- reconciling ourselves. Leadership training for those who lead faith-sharing groups, in their respective parishes, will take place this month. For more information contact Maurizio Visentin a 705-562-2349. Six faith-sharing sessions will then occur during Lent this year. Faith-sharing sessions consist of prayers, reflections, discussions, and opportunities to act upon faith and Scripture. Sessions op with a prayer and song, followed by a reflection. Later in the session, a biblical passage is read a more reflection and opportunities for sharing thoughts follows. Sessions are rounded out by invi participants to plan ways to move faith into action. Session One Life Choices The first session reflects on Jesus desert experience as a model for shaping our life choices, an measuring them against the values of the Gospel Session Two The Transforming Power of Forgiveness The second session explores the transforming power of forgiveness. Session Three Building Anew Session three faces up to the challenge of ever raising up, always building anew, and in particul how we are called to do this both as individuals, and as Church. Session Four Children of Light The Lenten theme of light is central to session four, with the invitation to shine the light of Christ into, and through our lives. Session Five Unbinding and being Unbound The reflection in session five is on the great sign of Lazarus being called back into life. The final session Session Six New Creation The final session invites us to reflect on the great gift of new and renewed life that God offers us Christ: we are a new creation. The Scripture from this final session gives the title to the whole season, affirming our belief that God s promise, through the prophet Ezekiel, to give his people N Heart, New Spirit is made real in our lives through Christ and the great Easter mystery.
