Saints and Solemnities of the Season Lent 2016 This year, Ash Wednesday is celebrated on February 10. March 20, Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord, is the first day of Holy Week. The Triduum will be celebrated on March 24 (Holy Thursday), March 25 (Good Friday), and March 26 and 27 (Holy Saturday/Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday). The Church also celebrates the feast days of several Saints during Lent, including the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In addition to the information and prayer suggestions given below, learn even more about many of these Saints by visiting SaintsResource.com. You may be wondering what happened to the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, normally celebrated on March 25. Since that is the date of Good Friday in 2016, the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord will be celebrated on Monday, April 4. February 11: Our Lady of Lourdes In 1858, Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous saying, I am the Immaculate Conception. Through these apparitions at Lourdes, the Blessed Virgin Mary revitalized the faith of many people. Today, Lourdes is a place of pilgrimage and healing. Take time to pray today for a strong faith and belief in God. O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us! Be My Disciples: Grade 3, Chapter 22 Sean mis Discípulos: Grado 3, Capítulo 22 February 17: The Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order Seven noblemen from Florence, Italy, left the corruption and low morals of the city in 1260 and withdrew to a solitary place for prayer and service to God. These men began a monastic community which combined prayer and active ministry. The Servites continue to be active in ministry in the United States and throughout the world today. Take time to pray today for those who lead lives of prayer and service to the Church throughout the world. Saints of the Servite Order, pray for us!

February 22: The Chair of Saint Peter the Apostle The Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter the Apostle commemorates Christ s choosing Peter to be the leader of the Church. March 3: Saint Katharine Drexel Virgin Katharine Drexel came from a wealthy family in Philadelphia. Her parents were generous to the poor, and Katharine grew up knowing that she also wanted to help the poor. She eventually founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament to work with African Americans and Native Americans.
