IHM Family Faith Formation Everyday Stewardship An everyday steward is called to be gracious. I read once that to be a gracious person meant to walk softly, speak with intent, and to leave those you have met feeling that their lives were better that day because they encountered you. What a way to live! But alas, living like that each and every day is so very hard. I hate to think that sometimes people I have encountered are happy to see me go, but I know that it is true. As Christians we are graced people, but on some days, that grace can seem pretty hidden. A home-based, family-orientated, way of living and learning our Faith! Founded on the principle that children learn the faith best when they learn it from their parents, Family Faith Formation trains, supports and encourages parents to teach their children by supplying a complete, easy-to-use curriculum and monthly training sessions. New families please call 782-8096 X 1202 to register. September Session: Overview/ Family Prayer Catechist Meeting Aug. 29 6:00 Sunday the10th, 10:30 @ Tuesday the 12th, 6:00 @ Sunday the 17th, 9:45 @ If you are looking for an example of gracious living look no further than Our Lady. She answered the call regardless of the cost and she lived her life with a great dignity in the face of horrible trials. She was a gracious host to the Incarnation in her womb and she continues to invite us to get to know her Son better. She certainly embodies the definition of gracious living above. We are called to always be ready and open to the call of her Son. He will bring us to those in need, seeking light in a world of darkness. Our hope must be then that after our encounter with another, they will feel enriched by our presence. Of course, we will know, like Our Lady knew before us, that it wasn't about us at all. It was about the Jesus in us meeting the Jesus in them. Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS Liturgical Publications Parishioners at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish have a long history of showing their commitment to the Diocese of Portland by supporting the Catholic Appeal. We ask that you give prayerful consideration to this important request from the Bishop. The Appeal funds the agencies and ministries that support thousands of our brothers and sisters in need across the state of Maine. We hope that you will respond generously. We thank you in advance for your participation in this vitally important initiative. PARISH LIFE CONFERENCE 2017 will be held on October 14, 2017 at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston. The day will begin at 9:00am with Mass celebrated by Bishop Deeley. The two keynote speakers for this year are Leisa Anslinger, speaker, author and director of Catholic Life & Faith and Rory Cooney, composer, musician and speaker. With eleven workshops to choose from, there is something for everyone. Early bird deadline is September 22, 2017. For more information about cost, workshops and other details go to: www.portlanddiocese.org/olff/parish_life_conference. The 2017 Appeal goal for IHM parish has been set at "That Man is You" $59,763 Every other Saturday at Church at 7:00 AM Current IHM Parish pledges total $55,036 Our participation rate is currently 12% All men are welcome! I am the Lord, there is no other. ~ Isaiah 45:6 Christmas by the Lake, November 18, 2017 Raffle Booth One item that would be great would be a packet/box of gift certificates. These could be from merchants, grocery stores, salons, hotels, restaurants, car washes, theaters, carpet cleaners, etc. Please ask around and then bring them in asap since the raffle tickets have to be made and then mailed out. Give them to Louise Geoffroy, Tina St. Pierre, Mona Ervin or Karen Finley. The more we get the bigger the value someone would get. Quilting/Sewing Booth We would love to have your sewing skills put to use! We are looking for donations of table runners, potholders, aprons, mug rugs, baby quilts, any type of quilt, scarves, stuffed animals, pillows, wall hangings or any sewn item. We are also looking for gently used quilt supplies, tools, fabric, quilt books and patterns. We would like to have a quilter s corner at our booth this year and would welcome your items as you clean out or reorganize! Items can be left on the bench in the Narthex. If you are willing to sew for us or have questions regarding hand made items, donations, or ideas for items, please call Jo Thibodeau, 207-225-2365. We are still in need of a chair or co-chairs for the Silent Auction. Please help! ************************************** Many are already working on fair items but more help is needed. Items for the Big Raffle are needed. Chair or co-chairs are needed for the Silent Auction. These two booths are big money makers. The Country Store is expanding to include hand made items such as soaps, lip balm, country items as well as the usual jams, jellies, pickles, relishes and tomatoes. Please think of us as you do your canning or make some items with a country theme. A big need right now would be 8 oz. & 16 oz. canning jars. Here s a way to help if you don t do canning. Place them on the bench in the narthex and they will get used right away. Are you handy making wooden items? Think about donating some to the Wood Crafts booth and they will get them painted for the fair. Again, they need them asap to have time to paint them. It could even be a board cut into a shape to be painted as a sign or wall plaque. Have you gone through your jewelry yet to clean out what you don t use? The jewelry booth is a popular spot at fair time. Place your items on the bench in the narthex. We have lots of yarn that has been donated that is waiting to be made into hats, gloves, mittens, vests, and baby items. Check with a fair member to see what is available. Please keep your bulletins close by to check on the fair needs. It is a warm time of the year to think about the fair but it will be here before you know it! Look how fast summer is going.
