Order of Worship Prelude Chorale Prelude on Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr, BWV 711 J. S. Bach Welcome and greetings Joe Novenson, senior teaching pastor * Call to worship based on Job 38 and Psalm 107 Leader: God alone laid the foundations of the earth. All: The morning stars sang together and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy. Leader: From the midst of the whirlwind, God speaks with power. All: We have seen the deeds of the Lord, who commands and raises the stormy wind and also makes the storm be still. We surround ourselves with the wondrous deeds of the Lord! Kim Long, Feasting on the Word Worship Companion, 2015 * Hymn of praise 53, vv. 1, 2, 5 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty * Prayer of adoration * Affirmation of faith The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Call to confession taken from 2 Chronicles 7 and Hosea 14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin. I will heal their waywardness and love them freely. Silent prayers of confession Assurance of God s pardoning grace Romans 8:1-3a, 38-39 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. * Hymn of assurance 508 Jesus, Lover of My Soul Worship in the giving of God s tithe and our offerings Offertory Do Not Be Afraid Chancel Choir Do not be afraid for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name; you are mine, you are mine. When you walk through the waters, I ll be with you; you will never sink beneath the waves. When the fire is burning all around you, you will never be consumed by the flames. When the fear of loneliness is looming, then remember I am at your side. When you dwell in exile of a stranger, remember you are precious in my eyes. You are mine, O my child, I am your Father, and I love you with a perfect love. words by Gerald Markland and music by Philip W. J. Stopford

SERMON NOTES Hope in the Storm Mark 4:35-41 1. The disciples fearful accusation in the storm: Don t you care? (vv. 35-38) 2. Jesus powerful presence in the storm: Quiet! Be still! (v. 39) 3. The revealing questions after the storm: Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? (v. 40) Who is this? (v. 41) BIG IDEA: Our only hope in the storm is the powerful presence of Jesus.

Mark 4:35-41 35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, Let us go over to the other side. 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, Teacher, don t you care if we drown? 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, Quiet! Be still! Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? 41 They were terrified and asked each other, Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him! MEMBERS & VISITORS - PLEASE REACH OUT TO US!
