GOSPEL REFLECTION We read today s Gospel in the context of last week s Gospel in which Jesus sent the twelve disciples to proclaim the kingdom of heaven. In between last week s reading and today s reading, Jesus has predicted that the disciples will face difficulties in their mission. Many people will not receive them well, even within the land of Israel. Even family members will turn away from the disciples because of the disciples commitment to Jesus and the kingdom. Today s Gospel offers the disciples consolation against this difficult truth. The disciples of Jesus are called upon to keep their focus on God. Those who can harm the body do not have ultimate power; God does. Still persecution and suffering cannot be avoided or prevented. But Jesus reassures his disciples that God knows and cares about what happens to his children. We might not face the same type of persecution, but we do experience difficulties as we endeavor to live a Christian life. Sometimes we let the opinions of others prevent us from doing what we know to be right. We need the reminder that what God thinks about us is more important. We are reassured by the promise that God cares for us and protects us. www.loyolapress.com/sundayconnection SANCTUARY LAMP The lamp beside our church tabernacle reminds us of the Real Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. The candle in our church burns this week In Loving Memory of John St. Onge In Remembrance of Our Wedding Anniversary (Wife Simone)

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time~ June 25, 2017 Page 2 SAINT EDMUND CAMPION PARISH As many of you know, beginning this Thursday, June 29, the parishes of Blessed Sacrament, Our Lady of Peace and Saint Christopher will become the new parish of Saint Edmund Campion a time of transition for all of us. We recognize that change is easier for some than for others. Rest assured that it is our priority to do all we can to help make this as smooth a transition as possible, but it is fair to expect some bumps in the road. Your patience during this process will be most appreciated. Below is information we hope will address some questions that have been asked. Mass Schedule We will be operating under a new Mass schedule beginning this Thursday, June 29 with the first Mass of the Saint Edmund Campion parish being celebrated on June 29 at 7:30 a.m. at the Saint Christopher Campus. The first Mass being celebrated at the Our Lady of Peace Campus will be on Friday, June 30 at 9:00 a.m. The complete Mass schedule is as follows: Saint Christopher Campus Saturday ~ 4:00 p.m. Sunday ~ 7:30 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. Monday Thursday ~ 7:30 a.m. Our Lady of Peace Campus Sunday ~ 9:00 a.m. Friday & Saturday ~ 9:00 a.m. Offertory Envelopes During these next several weeks, we will be consolidating the data of all three parishes to create a new Saint Edmund Campion database. While this is being done, you are asked to continue to use the envelopes you have been using. Saint Christopher families will be sent an envelope set that can be used during the month of August. A newly-designed set of envelopes will be sent to all Saint Edmund Campion parishioners in late August for use beginning the weekend of September 2/3. Offering Checks Those of you who make your church offering using a personal check are asked to make your check payable to Our Lady of Peace or Saint Christopher Church until further notice. We cannot open a bank account under the name of Saint Edmund Campion until our new parish is legally recognized, a process that our legal counsel is currently overseeing. Mass Intentions Many of the Masses being celebrated during the remainder of this year will be offered for more than one person. This is necessary in order to satisfy the intentions that have already been booked at the three parishes. Future intentions will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis with only one intention being taken for each Mass. The chart to the side is how the intentions that have already been booked will be handled. If you have any questions, concerns or would like to book an intention, you are asked to call the parish office at 860-568-5240. If your intention was booked for It will be offered at 4:00 pm (Sat) - Our Lady of Peace 4:00 pm (Sat) - Saint Christopher Campus 4:00 pm (Sat) - Saint Christopher's 4:00 pm (Sat) - Saint Christopher Campus 5:30 pm (Sat) - Blessed Sacrament 4:00 pm (Sat) - Saint Christopher Campus 8:00 am (Sun) - Saint Christopher's 7:30 am (Sun) - Saint Christopher Campus 8:30 am (Sun) - Blessed Sacrament 9:00 am (Sun) - Our Lady of Peace Campus 10:30 am (Sun) - Our Lady of Peace 9:00 am (Sun) - Our Lady of Peace Campus 10:30 am (Sun) - Saint Christopher's 10:30 am (Sun) - Saint Christopher Campus 7:30 am (M-Th) - Saint Christopher's 7:30 am (M-Th) - Saint Christopher Campus 9:00 am (M/W) - Blessed Sacrament 7:30 am (M/W) - Saint Christopher Campus 9:00 am (T/Th) - Our Lady of Peace 7:30 am (T/Th) - Saint Christopher Campus 9:00 am (F) - Blessed Sacrament 9:00 am (F) - Our Lady of Peace Campus 9:00 am (Sat) - Our Lady of Peace 9:00 am (Sat) - Our Lady of Peace Campus

A FAMILY PERPSECTIVE Every family is imperfect. We often fail ourselves and those we love. In today s gospel Jesus tells us, I did not come for the righteous, but for sinners. By showing mercy we avoid the shame and blame game and discover love and acceptance in our family. ARCHBISHOP REQUESTS PRAYERS Guided by the missionary vision of the Holy Father s Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Guadium or Joy of the Gospel, the Archdiocese of Hartford is sending delegates to participate in the Convocation of Catholic Leaders. The purpose of the national meeting is to discuss the issues facing Catholics in the 21st Century, and to ultimately equip delegates with tools and resources they can use to evangelize in their respective dioceses. The convocation will take place in Orlando, FL from July 1-4. Archbishop Blair, who as the chairman of the USCCB s Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis played an important role in planning the historic gathering, will lead a delegation of 25 people from throughout the Archdiocese. My hope is that these delegates will bring back to the Archdiocese innovative and creative ideas to share with parishioners. For a parish to grow and thrive, the challenge is for every parishioner to realize that being Catholic also means being evangelical, a missionary, and a witness for the faith. This is what Pope Francis is asking of all of us, says Archbishop Blair. The Archbishop asks everyone to pray for the success of the convocation and for the Archdiocesan delegation who will be participating. For more information about the Convocation of Catholic Leaders visit: usccb.org/convocation.

Sunday 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time LECTIO DIVINA & DAILY READINGS Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time Jeremiah 20: 10-13 Genesis 12: 1-9 Genesis 13: 2, 5-18 Genesis 15: 1-12, 17-18 Acts of the Apostles 12: 1-11 Genesis 17: 1, 9-10, 15-22 Genesis 18: 1-15 2 Kings 4: 8-11, 14-16a Psalm 69: 8-10, 14, 17, 33-35 Psalm 33: 12-13, 18-20, 22 Psalm 15: 2-4ab, 5 Psalm 105: 1-4, 6-9 Psalm 34: 2-9 Psalm 128: 1-5 Luke 1: 46-50, 53-55 Psalm 89: 2-3, 16-19 Romans 5: 12-15 2 Timothy 4: 6-8, 17-18 Romans 6: 3-4, 8-11 Matthew 10: 26-33 1-5 6, 12-14 15-20 Matthew 16: 13-19 Matthew 8: 1-4 Matthew 8: 5-17 Matthew 10: 37-42 What is Lectio Divina? While reading sacred scripture, read the words with a love and sense of discovery until something seems to strike home. Sit with the passage as one would with a good friend-not just thinking or analyzing, but instead remaining in a quiet, listening spirit, so the word can nurture and challenge you. Call to Prayer: Let us take a moment in the midst of all our activity to prepare ourselves for prayer. Excerpts from SNOW FALLING ON SNOW Copyright 2001 by Robert J. Wicks Used with permission of Paulist Press www.paulistpress.com The Word of God: Choose one of next Sunday s readings. One person reads the scripture aloud as others are attentive to a word, phrase, or theme that is meaningful to them. Allow for a minute of silent reflection. Have another person read the same scripture a second time. Faith Sharing: Begin with an open ended question such as What strikes you from this reading? and/ or you can use the Reflection Question found below. Allow time for reflection & sharing. Closing Prayer: At the end of the faith sharing, invite participants to pray aloud for any particular petitions or praises they may have. Feel free to close with: The Lord s Prayer or spontaneous prayers or a faith-based song. Reflection for Next Sunday, July 2, 2017 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time The first vocation is always to follow Jesus. Belonging to God s family is the necessary goal of every individual and family. Our personal crosses (e.g., illness, or even a ridiculed counter-cultural Christian life) can become redemptive with the proper focus. The way of the cross is the way of penance and renewal to extend Christ s kingdom. Living an unselfish life is a sign of a true disciple.
